Beast mode. Had one growing up. Us kids called it "the big bomber" cuz the muffler was blown out. Neighbors said they could hear it 5 miles away when we put it on a blower.

It would be interesting to see how an International 650 Diesel would compare to the JD 830. The 2 cylinder JD diesels had huge torque low dow, the IH diesels used higher RPM and twice as many cylinders to have the same pulling power!

I grew up doing everything there was to do with an A with a loader, moving snow all winter, pulling cars out of the ditch, plowing discing cultivating mowing hay windrowing and baling I did everything with that tractor! I could never figure out how the tractor was NEVER loud when you were running it but when my dad was running it I could hear that tractor pulling 2 miles away! I ran that tractor for 41 years and about 10 years ago my dad sold it, it kind of hurt to see it go.

What is the difference between an 830 and an 830 Rice Special other than the rear tires? Great to this old two cylinder diesel still going strong!
@mosesduprey81837 жыл бұрын
Michael Halsall the main difference was the rice and cane tires, single rib front tires, and various mud guards so the tractor would withstand the wetter conditions of working in rice fields

Two cylinder John Deere power and torque at it’s utmost refinement! The end of the evolution! I’ve got one of these brutes but I have to admit my ‘64 3020 Diesel which is actually at the lower end of the New Generation series that finally put John Deere at the top and never looked back can easily out class this and any two banger! But I love the two cylinder era and own 6 of them!

John Deere 830's are diesel so it would be a Pony motor. since it was a rice special, its more equipped for watery environments, but its virtually the same tractor, just with slight changes to the body and different tires
@biggreentractor52354 жыл бұрын
Just because it’s a diesel don’t mean it has a pony. Got one myself with the pony but a friend of mine has the electric model. If you don’t believe me included is a link with the battery count. Note it has electric start option. 24 volt starter like the 4010 iron horse diesels. www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/0/5/53-john-deere-830.html

@@sheilamclaughlin963 a Massey 55 has been claimed to have 41 Horse power (draw bar) while the JD 830 has a claimed horsepower of 69.66. (drawbar) that is a whopping difference of 28.66 hp. now if we go by the tested drawbar results, the Massey 55 has 57.55 hp on the draw bar while the JD 830 has 67.15 horse power. that comes out to a difference of 9.6 horse power, so that "John Smell" beats your Massey-Harris by quite a bit. I've liked that this series of JD tractors we had a 630 Gas and liked the hood lines and colors. I just realized that I may have been responsible for it's demise, I was pulling a deep tillage cultivator, a 10 footer. And a shaft broke in the transmission rendering it too costly to fix, I now think it failed because I went up a gear to finish faster. It was around 1977 so the 630 was 2 generations behind the times, dad ended up making a trade for a JD 3020 gas.
@TheFarmerfitz5 жыл бұрын
I understand the dilemma of wanting to finish the field when you also have somewhere to be.. You don't wanna be late but you're almost done and that's when the field seems to get bigger... lol so its either be late or kick ot up a notch and get done... And that's also when break downs like to happen...

@jonnydough37525 жыл бұрын
Trust me, its not at all abused. That John Deere will do that all day long without a problem. If tractors of today could take half of that use without breaking, it would be a miracle
@Americkslander4 жыл бұрын
those tractors were built out of thick, strong Iron and steel, rather todays steel and aluminum tractors, so it would take quite bit to tear up one of them bad boys. the only abuse I can think of that would harm a older John Deere would be neglect
