Got a John Deere 9570RX with a Cummins QSX15 that will start and run for about 60 seconds and then it will die. Starts right back up but will die after 60 seconds every time. In this video, I will show you how I got my diagnosis and I will show what it takes to replace the high pressure fuel pump.

Mornin ZK and crew. I've drilled and pulled those pins before. It's one of the frustrations of Cummins (and other manufactures) using goofy drive couplings like that. I believe the failure mode is material fatigue. Lot of vibration in those systems, and the pins are hardened. Eventually they fracture like icicles.

Too bad all JD franchise owners don't see that their technicians are properly trained. We have experienced allot of incompetent mechanics working on our green iron, especially in the last 6-8 years. Many of the ace mechanics are leaving our local dealer. I appreciate your professionalism.

hate to say it , but Deere demands more training than most , but still true ,dealers , all of them aim for MINIMUM training for all colors . if it aint demanded and follow thru , with warranty loss for ignoriing training , dealers dont care , mostly at the top management . LOWER manglers , will also shave training IF they work with a BONUS for "saving $$" each month . then the problem becomes worse and top managers just shrug . Kubota , i recently worked with came to dealer , specifically to ask shop techs questions and concerns . TRAINING was at the top .

A lot of the tech don’t get enough Traning on the new system because either there to busy or don’t want to spend the money to train there people

A lot of times the problem is the techs stay a little while and realise that working on equipment is actually work and leave to go make more money and work on cars in the air conditioning. Or the second problem is dealers that get a good tech and don’t pay enough to keep them.

@@timblack33 because good mechanics aren’t paid enough for the work which is why everyone is always hiring them. 2 of my very good friends both went to college to be diesel techs, stayed in the industry about 10 years and left. Realized the money wasnt there for the amount of knowledge they had.

@@kylem9834 you’re exactly right. I’m seeing wages go up across the industry but they’re still not where they need to be. I hired a former freightliner truck shop service manager last year and had to pay him healthily but it’s been a great investment.

Just curious as to why you need to time the high pressure pump. Doesn’t it provide a continuous pressure that is controlled by the pulses of the injectors? Great video…
@2011Harvesttime
@2011Harvesttime Жыл бұрын
Just a guess. Cummins decided to time the high pressure pumps internal rotating parts to the engines internal rotating parts to enhance engine operation, relative to controlling the natural harmonic frequency of working parts together which helps with noise control and parts longevity. This timing does not appear to be relative to start or end of injection.

When injector opening causes a pressure drop in rail the HP pump being on a discharge cycle offsets the pressure drop and assures more accurate fuel volume delivery. The pressure cycles in rail are reduced and the hydraulic resonance is diminished. Before the pulses were synchronized there were some engines that would have coarser idle and some that saw rail pressure sensor life too short. There were some systems with an accumulator to suppress the pulses, likely still some with something to deal with the unbalanced pulses.
