Hey Paul. Its great that you can do the work. That looks like an expensive job at a tractor shop. Happy New Year buddy

Hello John, Thank you, Happy New Year to you and your family! The work on the tractor would have been a little on the expensive side, and there is more work to do to Little Betsy yet. I enjoy making the repairs, it reminds me of the good old days.

Great video and very helpful. I am working on a Deere 920 with a 3 cylinder and cav pump. Is there any timing that needs done for these pump and is it possible to get the pump 180 degrees out like the Roosa Master pumps? Any help would be great. Thank you.

Greetings from Ontario, Sounds like you have a great project on the go. If memory serves me correctly, the slot in the fuel injection pump drive shaft flange is off center, on one side. The pin in the gear can only fit in one position. I do not think the pump can be installed 180 degrees out of time. Good luck with your work and thanks for reaching out. All the best!

Been doing a little shop stuff too. Didn't make much for videos. 2 specific things of note. AFTER everything was finished and together changing front wheel bearing on the little car I discovered the snap ring on the bench! I'd forgotten to put it back in... Injector pump on continental diesel welder. Pulled the inlet end off to check the fine screen for obstruction. The vanes came out with the screen & one of those extremely tiny springs to hold them apart fell unnoticed to the shop floor ! Answers to prayer to find that thing... Both machines up and running.

@@lovesloudcars Buddy, I'm impressed with the scope of work on your projects. You can do anything! I smile thinking of the vane spring and snap ring... As much as I do not enjoy them, we all have those "rich learning opportunities"! Love the answer to prayer, and that both machines are back together and running.

Hello Paul, how's she goin b'y? Haven't had much time lately to do much with everything that's going on in my world. Still recouping and taking care of the mrs till we get her out of the wheelchair so busy busy busy! Did get out for while put out few snares looking to get few rabbits for canning. Tractor time always cool on a bad day at my place. My Betsy has been neglected last few months and it needs some tlc as well like new battery and water in my fuel has to come out. Gotta soon get at her. Take care and Happy New Year to you and family!

Hello Mac, it is great to hear from you Buddy. Glad to hear your Mrs. is home, my heart goes out to both of you. You have been, and continue to be on quite a journey. I am sure you your hands are full to say the least. I hope your New Year brings continued healing and recuperation back to 100% for you both. Better days are ahead Buddy!! I bet it was good to get out, I am sure you really enjoyed setting some rabbit slips. It would be great to have you make a video on canning the rabbits. I can appreciate how fast it seems a tractor or other machine can need some tlc and long it can take to find the time to get at it. A wise friend once told me, Paul there are seasons for everything. How has your winter weather been? We had a terrific two day storm just before Christmas that literally closed our roads for over two days. The wind and snow were incredible and now we are in a mild stretch where we have had several inches of rain and warm temps that melted all the snow that we had just a few days ago. We have had the craziest weather. Buddy, it is always great to hear from you. Take care, and all the best to you and your family. Paul

Thank you for your knowledge. I am in Scotland and have a John deere 1640, which I broke the pump shaft by burning cooking oil (I know I'm stupid). Sourced a s/h pump from the next engine up and a bit scared to fit back in case the timing is out because i didn't tdc. I was told that the pump could be removed if i didn't rotate the engine? 😊. Any advice would be very welcome 😊 Ps I went away and left the tractor, along return ran for 10 minutes, then stopped, the fuel had turned into half liver like substance which I cleaned out ( haven't done the lines as yet)😊 I won't do that again if I can get my jd going?

Greetings from Canada. Thanks for reaching out, I am humbled by your query. Sounds like you have had what I would term as a rich learning opportunity. I would suggest looking in the injection pump drive gear to see if there is a key way. If memory serves me correctly you should be able to turn the injection pump shaft to align the key (shaft) and slot in the gear and then install it. If you are careful, the pump gear should not turn out of position. I would suggest removing and flushing all the fuel lines including the fuel injector supply lines and cleaning and flushing them well. Also, I would suggest removing and flushing the injectors (with a pop tester?). The work may sound a little onerous but I am confident you (and your 1640) will do just fine! As an aside, my family hail from the UK. One of our children and family live in Scotland. We were there for a visit in February. Good luck with your repairs, please let me know how you make out. Paul

Hi Paul, Thanks for your reply and suggestions. most appreciated . I managed to source a pump from a guy who was scraping a 2040. Which I believe to be the same engine with a turbo? I bought the pump and turbo from him, thinking it would improve my machine? I hope to fit the turbo at a later date once my 1640 is running. I was told my 1640 may smoke a bit, being calibrated for a 2040? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. You have inspired me to get on with the job and to the delight of my wife because the tractor is right outside the kitchen window. 🤪 If I may keep in touch with you during my venture, it would be great ? Nice to know you have contacts in Scotland. Kind regards Dave
