What a great tutorial, looks the same as my Murray. I also like your vertical method for changing the belts. I love your parenting skills and it was good that you didn't put the other person down. We all make those mistakes. Thanks for the excellent video 😊

Thanks. Mine just broke. So seeing the couple of pins that I’ll have to remove was really helpful.

Well, John Deere is it’s own “unique” design. The older early 200s craftsman lt and gt tractors were easy to replace idler pulleys and belts. I like the shaft drive tractors because you don’t have any worn out belts and pulleys. Great video and nice tips too thanks for the how-to look forward for more

I have a 1989 STX38 (12 horse Kohler) thst I've owned since the mid 2000s and its still running the original traction belt. I've replaced some wear parts and a carb but it mows each week April to October.

Keep rebuilding it forever, as you already know once into the 2000s that it went all downhill.

I have a JD walk behind mower that I got from the trash. It has the swivel front wheels that can be locked straight with a lever. I could not get them to swivel. So I disassembled them. There was a grease zirk on both of them. Not only had the previous owner never greased them. They had never been greased. This was a very expensive walk behind. I worked selling JD parts in the '90s. I'm confused. Heads would have rolled over such an oversight back then.

All the D, L, and LA series John Deere s had the most cursed steering systems. Weird steering geometry so they wear front tires like crazy, steering rods where the joint that never wears out is replaceable and the joint that always fails is built solid into the rod and has to have a whole new rod purchased to repair it.

I have heard that. As I have said many times I avoid when ever possible anything to do with these. I have a racer built out of one and constantly seem in a fight with the steering setup.

Let's not talk about the 50$ oil filter setup Deere has now. Deere has turned into the Apple of the equipment world, I have no love for them because of the headaches farmers go thru with their equipment and the whole right to repair thing. Once they started with the emissions crap and common rail diesels they really latched on to the Apple way of business. Much love for Louis Rossman and the good fight he's putting up against them. Edit: I like the old stuff , before this trash they've sold for the last 10-15yrs.

@@redneckcomputergeek The latest Chinese hardware on factory parts like drag links will snap off at far lower torque settings now. If you race and push the limits on things, the older made in USA stuff has better grade hardware and good luck.

Well I got a old lady mower the other day because she said they keep it 7 weeks and said they didn’t have time to fix it and it’s not worth fixing because it was 2 years old, I raised the hood and it had a dirty 1993 engine that was locked down This is the reason people hate on mechanic in general, the V twin was stolen by that shop

neil my wife and i still watch every episode and love your show especially watching when john is on the interaction between you too guys, i have a question, i bought a brand new $7500.00 john deere zero turn last year and used it 4 hours and sold it back to the dealer, it was too confusing with all the computer controlled devices, even the engine speed was push button, im looking into buying another zero turn but one made without a lot of computer controlled things, im considering a ariens 54 inch thats around $6000.00 or a toro or gravely, any suggestions and God Bless you and jessie and john and fluff, mike corasaniti

Computers at this point are in everything above 25 to 27 HP engine depending on the brand. Because of the California Carb laws in 2014 to 2017. Every company pushed to stay compliant just to get hit again in the last 2 years with new laws. Even some 14hp and up have digital advancement ignition Lifan being the most common to see this in. Reality is anything made after 2014 probably has a computer its more a question of how many.

Watch out for aftermarket belts that are not sized correctly . and also squirrels seem to like the taste of the plastic pulleys that are used to tension the drive belt so they may need replacing too if rodent teeth marks have ruined them.

If we’re talking “lawn tractors” the older craftsman lt series were hard to beat the belts and pulleys are easy to change parts are readily available through oem distributors and they are simple

Those John Deere's have one of the easiest seats to adjust, you could probably move it all the way forward and John could probably drive it without any issues. Definitely a shady mechanic, messing with the drive belt to make the machine have to come back in.

$800 seems high for that work. Maybe I'm not charging enough!
@redneckcomputergeek

No your right its high. There are some questionable prices on the list and labor on the job should have been 2 hours at most where it was an out right spindle swap and new blades. Its about $200 more then it should be on the labor. There is also the matter of why was the drive belt new but only charged for 1 belt on the list. At the end of the day it's fixed now and everybody learned something.

The lowes has Home Depot tractors are not the same as the dealer machines. If you go to a dealer you will be looking at the “x” series tractors wich aren’t even comparable fairly.
