I always use "ethanol free" fuel in all my small engines. String trimmer, leaf blower & lawn tractor.

I run 87 octane when I’m mowing weekly, but change to ethanol free toward end of mowing season. Storing when ethanol fuel will cause carb issues!

How can you tell if the fuel filter is bad? Mine looks fine (bought the mower used with 300hrs on it - and has what i think is a new fuel filter). Lately it's been struggling to stay running and now its hardly pulling fuel. Pulled the fuel line which was clogged - cleaned that out. Ran good for 10 mins then bogged down and won't start. I'm wondering if it's the fuel pump, but knowing my luck it could be the fuel filter throwing off the pump sensor.... any ideas?

Sorry to hear that! Best way would be to pull of the filter and try to blow through it with your mouth. If it feels tough, it may be clogged. I would go ahead and change it out if it were me, a cheap part to replace. Or you could bypass it for a short time to see if it runs right.
