John Deere Gator Heater Plugs

In this video we look at how to change the heater plugs on a John Deere XUV 855d Gator. This gator was very slow to start and the engine would turn over for a long time on first start up, it started fine then after the initial start, after checking that there was power going to the heater plugs with key on, I replaced the plugs to fix the problem. A simple enough job this time for mechanic or DIY.

Simple enough job, just make sure and keep everything clean in there and don’t let anything fall down the inlet ports.

I notice you did not change the valve cover gasket. Thoughts on that? Mine has only about 300 hrs, but a lot of starts and stops over 11 years. I did test the glow plug on the driver's side (the only one easily accessible) with an ohm meter and it was showing discontinuity. Fuse was fine. Thanks for the video. Very helpful to see ahead of time that the whole cover has to come off, not just the small valve cover "half."

The gasket is a rubber seal and is usually in good condition and can be re-used. Just make sure the area is clean where it sits on the cylinder head and you should be fine.
