It's also a great idea, the same with cars/trucks, is to put a little oil to new filter to help your engine get as much oil on startup as possible. I learned that from my good friend, Paul Short. I have been doing this with cars for a long time, when possible. When they are on sideways, its hard to get much oil in them, but every little bit helps. You should slso account for the oil that goes in your filter. My x300 takes 1.8 quarts. That's almost 2 quarts. Right at 57.5 oz.

How often should the spark plugs and fuel filter be changed on a 2023 x590 series mower?
@WesternEquipment Жыл бұрын
Every 100 hours or annually which is also what is suggested for your air filter and oil change.
@DH-mf2lv Жыл бұрын
I can understand changing oil and filter annually but I wouldn’t think time would matter on a spark plug and fuel filter. I would think they should be replaced on the amount of use, not time. Example- let’s say I change the spark plugs and for whatever reason the mower sits for a year and I don’t use the mower. It’s a total waste of money to replace the spark plugs just because they are a year old. It’s like replacing the bullets for your handgun just because they are years old. Thanks for the suggestions.
@DH-mf2lv Жыл бұрын

I've always started the motor after adding the oil with the new filter and then gave it a good 5-10 minutes for the oil to level off, take another reading, then adjust oil level.
@WesternEquipment Жыл бұрын
I don't think this is a bad idea. I don't do it this way since these filters go on sideways. Do you have trouble with them leaking a little when you put them on?

Why doesn't John Deere put a drain tube for the oil filter like on the x700 series?
@WesternEquipment Жыл бұрын
I think this is mainly because of the exposure to the oil drain on the tractor style mowers. You see these drain tubes on the zero turn mowers and larger X700's because the oil drain is not as easily accessible.

I have John deere d105, think that's it. Lol when service light flashes is that telling me that the hourly time has come to do this type of service? New owner, 497 hours showing bought it used last year.
@WesternEquipment4 жыл бұрын
Yes, when the service light flashes it is indicating that it is ready for one or more of the recommended services such as a full service (Oil change, air filters, spark plugs, etc,) or one of the other like greasing spindles and front axle. My advice would be to service everything when you are done this season and then follow the hourly guidelines after that. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!

Very good video. A couple of comments ... the X380 takes 2.1 quarts of oil, but only 2 quarts are included in the kit. Sounds like I have to buy an extra quart of oil before starting my maintenance. Second, grease of spindles, wheel bearings, etc. is not covered. How often should it be done and can you post a video? Thanks.
@WesternEquipment4 жыл бұрын
I am very confident that by using the 2 quarts that come with you kit your dipstick reading will be sufficient. Sometimes engineers get a bit too technical on the spec sheet. as far as greasing goes we will work on getting a video pushed out for that but in the meantime the operator manual suggests lubricating your mower spindles and axle grease points every 50 hours.

don;t buy kits until you really need all the parts, wasting your money. Sparts plugs should easily last 500 hours (your car would change after maybe 4,000 hours) and fuel filter should easily go 3 seasons in average use. Just buy oil on sale at auto store, (nothing special in JD oil) and a filter, buy air filter every 2 -3 three years, blow out filter every season, and clean thin pre filter sponge material every season. don;t forget to grease fittings on better mowers seasonally and put a dab of grease on steering pinion gear couple times per season.
