The Doors channel is the official KZbin home of classic Doors live performances, The Doors albums, and contemporary performances and content honoring The Doors featuring John Densmore and Robby Krieger.
With an intoxicating, genre-blending sound, provocative and uncompromising songs, and the mesmerizing power of singer Jim Morrison’s poetry and presence, The Doors had a transformative impact not only on popular music but on popular culture.
The Doors’ arrival on the rock scene in 1967 marked not only the start of a string of hit singles and albums that would become classics, but also of something much bigger - a new and deeper relationship between creators and audience. Refusing to be mere entertainers, the Los Angeles quartet relentlessly challenged, confronted and inspired their fans, leaping headfirst into the heart of darkness while other bands warbled about peace and love. Though they’ve had scores of imitators, there’s never been another band quite like them.

@@m42037 I'm in my 40's & agree. I guess my point is: When you listen to Robbie speak & play now, he's (respectfully) an old man. The Doors seem like a lifetime ago. John however is still a young man in the way he talks and plays. He obviously looks old but it feels like he just saw Jim last week.

On February 5th, 1969 the advertising manager for GM issues inter-company letters outlining the advertising campaign for the Opel, stating that magazine ads, a poster, and a television commercial will be used for promotion, however it appears that the television commercial did not enter into production stages, and hence was never broadcast. He came back and went nuts. And it wasn't even his song (Robby primarily having penned 'LMF')! A rare person that didn't sell the name or the songs. And I appreciate him also noting to artists, to paraphrase, if you're hurting sell whatever you need to. The Doors didn't need to, and I so admire the fact they all four agreed to be credited together on everything.

As a young drummer in the mid 60s, John was one of my heroes. My best friend, also a drummer, and I would take turns playing to the first Doors album. He had a den where his set was. And we would turn up the volume and play along. We learned a lot. Thanks John. Thanks Doors.

Densmore inspired my quest to be a good drummer . he was unlike any other drummers in the 60's rock scene. his interest in latin beats made some of the Doors songs unique. how he blended latin into a rock beat was quite a accomplishment . i was surprised after the doors broke up he did not join another band and further his talent . a drummer is as much of a composer as any instrumentalist or song writer. why he hung up his sticks , so to speak is a mystery to me.

i am going to do some research on John Densmore career as a aspiring young drummer. i believe he took lessons from Hal Blaine ( RIP ) the session drummer in the " wrecking crew " a group of musicians who cut the tracks for many recording artists . Hal Blaine was the actual drummer on Albums by the Byrds, Beach Boys and many top forty one hit wonder groups. also 100's of advertising jingles. he did not tour with the groups. i can't imagine any other drummer but John that could play for the songs the Doors wrote and recorded. he was a perfect fit for the doors. like Ringo Star was for the Beatles. thanks John. Ps. that was Densmore who played the drums on Doors Albums. he was not " replaced " by a studio session drummer.

@CiscoDuck

I'm a guitar player and I started playing in the 60's. I have to say when I heard John Densmore's drumming on the Doors 'Light My Fire' I immediately signed up for drums in the music dept at my Jr High school - all it took was that opening snare snap before the rest of the band plays a note. Those great understated fills, all that rhythmic angst he put into the drum parts of each Doors song just blew me away and still does to this day. I got tossed out of drum class (just like I had the year before in 6th grade) for my smart mouth, my lack of dedication to learning the rudiments of drumming per the textbook and the sheet music. I was an ear player and still am and the teachers didn't like it and I told them where to jump off. As I got older, I always listened to the drums in bands even though I am a strings musician. I still love the drums. The Doors couldn't have created the sounds they did with a lesser drummer or one that played more (say like a drummer like Keith Moon) - John was what and who was needed for that band - Even Ray and Robby both said that. Maybe John and Jim didn't get along so well - that's understandable - John is a serious musician and knows his stuff. Jim was not a musician per se. Kudos to John Densmore for his incredible drumming. It's a crime that he is still under-appreciated - and that goes for Robby too as a guitarist. They were both overshadowed by guys like Ginger Baker and Clapton, Keith Moon and Pete Townsend, John Bonham and Jimmy Page, Mitch Mitchell and Jimi Hendrix, Ian Paice and Richie Blackmore etc. Even Ray has been overlooked as a great keyboard player. But they were all three absolutely GREAT! What a band The Doors was!
