Wow. The first time I heard John Denver, he blew me way. The first time I saw The Mitchell Trio? Well that's today. Fascinating!

PBS introduced me to John's early life and other stuff! OMG they even tried an early Beatles tune and did it well!

It was also on the Mike Douglas Show that several years later - John Denver was introduced as Bob Denver (Gilligan)!!!!!!!!!!!

The Mitchell Trio's version of She Loves You brings out a whole deeper, more complex and more profound psychological meaning to this song. Not to mention the harmonies and instrumentation. It is , in my opinion, the best version of this song ever recorded.

Amen! If it's possible to improve on a Lennon/McCartney song, this is it.

They recorded a version on Mercury Records that was orchestrated to death. I like this one, just guitars and three voices.

Thanks for the post. That was after '65. I didn't know that those kinds of folk groups were still going but they were.

The Kingston Trio, the Limeliters, and the Brothers Four still are.

@Thomas: in name only. The originals are almost all gone now. Bob Shane of the Kingston Trio is still alive as I type this, but his health is not so good. This one show was shortly before the Mitchells disintegrated, and Denver took off on his own.

In terms of record sales folk was on its last legs. But there were still a lot of “folkies” (as they were called) around in 1965. Don’t forget Dylan didn’t go electric until 1966. His hardcore folkie fans went berserk. I remember it well. Sounds funny now.

What year is this? I am thinking ’67 or ‘68. Great clip! I knew that JD was with CMT before becoming the John we came to know later, but haven’t seen that many of his performances with them.
