Have been a fan since 1969. I was driving home & heard this song on the radio about the Rocky Mountains, which I have always loved! Couldn’t wait to get home & tell my hubby I heard this guy on the radio singing about the Rocky Mountains! Have all his recorded songs! Saw him perform in Tulsa twice & met him! Used his music for staff meetings at the camp which we directed. I’ve been to Aspen & I’m thankful for his heart, for his generosity, & for his music! Nothing like it before or since!

John Denver was my late husband most favourite singer and he played him constantly on Utube and CD's in the car. Since his death a year ago I have constantly played his music and it has been a comfort and helped me to feel closer to him. His words are beautiful and I have come to the realisation there weas noboby else like him. Linda Martin

It's a lesson too late for the learning Made of sand, made of sand In the wink of an eye my soul is turning In your hand, in your hand Are you going away with no word of farewell Will there be not a trace left behind I could have loved you better, didn't mean to be unkind You know that was the last thing on my mind As I lie in my bed every morning Without you, without you Each song in my heart dies aborning Without you, without you Are you going away with no word of farewell Will there be not a trace left behind I could have loved you better, didn't mean to be unkind You know that was the last thing on my mind You've got reasons a-plenty for going This I know, this I know For the weeds have been steadily growing Please don't go, please don't go Are you going away with no word of farewell Will there be not a trace left behind I could have loved you much better, didn't mean to be unkind You know that was the last thing on my mind Are you going away with no word of farewell Will there be not a trace left behind I could have loved you much better, didn't mean to be unkind You know that was the last thing on my mind

Denver believed in Spirit and completely in the Native American Legend.
@maranathagape7 жыл бұрын
candy nichols & et al; It always really surprised me, despite the blonde hair, that John's ethnic background was totally Germanic - if you compare his facial features to those of many of Native American heritage, you'll note the high, prominent cheekbones, the close-set eyes, the squared jaw, somewhat thin lips... those soulfully-deep chestnut eyes... Man! Change the hair color and skintone, you'd be hard-pressed to get any closer! No, sadly, I don't believe that John was a Christian (born-again, etc.). He certainly did honor his son Zak's part-Native heritage, as well as daughter Anna Kate's Asian heritage. That said, I know from his own words that he -did- believe in a Divine Being, ie:God, just not in religion or the tenets of any particular Christian denomination (although he had attended Presbyterian churches from time to time and his Mennonite ancestors certainly had an influence on him as well). He saw religion and religious practices (in the main) as ways of dividing people from each other and, as anyone knows, John was all about unity and bridging (or even breaking down) those barriers. He spoke often of his lifelong, intensely spiritual relationship with the natural world; referring to various things as being his/our "mother", "father", "brother", "sister"; and his sense of family with all people, all living beings, everywhere. He firmly believed that by going beyond those "artificial" barriers - of ethnicity, religion, political and philosophical ideologies, etc. - that people all around the world could overcome all of that and, by working together, eliminate the scourges of hunger, war and destruction of the natural environment. His belief in these ideals came from a place deep within, a place he could only really share through his music & with his audiences; compared to his difficulties in his interpersonal communication with those closest to him. John Denver is the epitome of the artistic "great soul", ever fated to be held in such great esteem by the masses, who struggled so mightily to express his feelings to those most dear to him but often failed in that, miserably. ***Sorry for long reply - I tend to get that way when talking about El Mæstro!

If you like this song, do yourself a favor; listen to the song, picture the person you love above all else. Now imagine the person you love has passed away unexpectedly. Now, because you still can, go share what's in your heart with that person. Tom Paxton didn't write, and countless artists didn't perform this for the sake of debate, but to touch people and lives...put it to good use. My wife really liked John Denver and this song.
