I was there....Jan akkerman was quite upset when John came on the stage during a song and he started to tune his bass guitar. He told me that this would be the last time ever to be on stage with John. We drank whiskey with john and he was very open to his fans (a few showed up) and we talked for hours with John and later got with him in the tour bus. John was the greatest star of them all although Jan akkerman is a fantastic musicion.

Ha. Just watched a cool documentary on JE, "An Ox's Story", and your account of hanging out with John sounds consistent with the documentary's anecdotes. Also, interesting is that John Entwistle saw himself as a bass GUITARIST, rather than a conventional bass player. Hence, he often filled his playing with leads. This audio clip clearly demonstrates him dominating the whole performance, and overpowering the keys, guitar, and voice. No wonder Jan Akkerman was annoyed, LOL. Entwistle was clearly a bass hero, and influenced practically everyone who came later. One bassist JE did give a nod to at one point was Jaco Pastorius, another unique musician.

Does John (The Who) play the lead Bass, like a Guitar? Because that sounds like A Great Blues Bass line, among thousands...... It's only the lyrics that make it what they say is.... Got to love...It! Ha!

Often John Played Bass like a low lead guitar. Here, I agree- he is playing simple ( but good and loud) bass
