Mesmerizing music by John Fahey. I was lucky to catch him in 1969 in Seattle at the UW. Very beautiful and unique sounds. Bravo.

Great how John's awkwardness, almost rudeness allows him to do his own unique thing with a brave take it or leave it attitude. Brilliant interview, relaxed and fluid it could have so easily been a car crash. Love early 1970's live TV, two musicians interacting. Almost definitely wouldn't happen today. Everyone is so scared that some loose cannon might say something currently unacceptable. Express an opinion or something.

It was certainly a treat to see John Fahey and I agree his direct, candid approach to answering questions was refreshing. I just saw Laura Weber for the first time on her Elizabeth Cotten interview; am I the only one who gets annoyed at her attempts, much too frequent, to finish (rudely) the answer for the interviewee? I also felt her comment (13:25) about slide guitars "sounding very similar" is pretty ignorant even for her admittedly "untutored ear." "Because of the tuning and the style, its very limited.... not varied." Of course slide guitar has the sound of sliding from one note/chord to the next; that's the whole point. And metal or glass, slide will have that twang. So "Hawaiian" songs, Weissenborn w/steel or nylon strings, Alvino Ray, Elmore James, and Duane Allman (let alone different tunings) must have the slide guitar sound, but they are very different to me. Then (14:20) having been told he's in Open G, she is audacious enough to start playing with him and stops to re-tune.

Good call by Laura kind of forcing John to Play "Farther Along"; they played it beautifully and props to Laura for retuning on the fly. The whole show was great, a treasure.

I think the slight detune was an intentional part of Fahey’s style. The dissonance to our conditioned response key intervals catches our attention. Always have loved Red Pony; what an amazing composition.
