John had invites from overseas but turned them down because he said he wanted to live in australia not America & to make it big over there you had to live there. Its true , John is a home body who loves interacting with his audiences. Half of his show is having fun with the crowd which you need to see to appreciate. Im aware there was plenty of interest in luring him overseas but he always said he was happy being at home.. I know many overseas artists are big fans , Tom Jones and Celine Dion to name just a few.

Have you watched John Farnham sing Burn for You. He wrote it. When he was on the road touring and his wife was at home with their 2 sons and it was hard for both of them. It’s a beautiful song. Also thank you for listening to our great Aussie singers. We are so proud of them. Also thank you for listening to the whole song and then commenting. So many people keep stop/starting the song to comment as they go and I really appreciate you having the respect for the artist and those of us who are listening. Thank you.

The answer to why John isn't so big in America, is because of how the US Record Labels treated International Artists. We Aussies are extremely stubborn and will not bend over and be censored or risk our beliefs to be altered to someone else's. The American Labels have a very clear vision in how their music should sound, and they enforce it draconian style. That's why America doesn't see alot of legendary international artists.

Basically, becaue didn't want to. Not everybody wants that fame! Besides that, Australia is paradise! We don't need to go to America.. Australia and New Zealand are pretty much the world's best kept secret. He was content living in his own country, singing the music he wanted to sing with world class musicians and singers he wanted to perform with. There are only 26, 000,000 of us now in 2021, but in the tour 'The Last Time' the last of his full national tours, John was 53, and something like 1 in every 5 adults in the country went to those concerts. It was extraordinary!

I missed lots of the 80s music , I was late 30s and into my 40s, family commitments and other things. So I too have come late to John. But what a joy. Love everything, absolutely everything he's recorded. I watch his concert clips on youtube every day. I'd been aware of snippets of Your the Voice on radio at around 2010 but never knew who the singer was until one magical day just a few months ago when I heard the full song title and. singer's name. Lucky me, i put the radio on at exactly the right moment - the universe was being kind to me. So, Voice and Long Way to the Top are my happy songs, put a huge smile on my face. Love the man, love his songs. If you like hard rock - John singing Led Zeppelin's Black Dog. And through him I've found other aussie singers and groups, - Reigan, Icehouse, Mitch Tambo, lots of earlier groups. It's been an education. 17.10.23. UK. E❤

Our John saves himself for us Aussie's. He doesn't need US to recognise him as great, we already know he is and have known for around 60 years. America just keeps on missing out on great talent from Aus because they can't look outside their box? Time they came to us, not us to America. Jessica Mowbray, Guy Sabastian, Dami Im and the list goes on... ACDC should have told America that Aussie are a thing in music by now. Thanks so much for showcasing Aussie talent though.

Basically John chose NOT to go overseas once he went big solo, and this was largely pre-internet. The only time he was really over there was when he was with the Little River Band. While he was the first call Queen made after Freddie died, and he has duoed with may international artists, he chose to not tour internationally aside from some Europe stuff on special occasions, and remained touring Australia over and over.

I once saw an interview with John, where he said that he was completely happy to stay in Australia, and sing for the Aussie audiences. He simply loves being an Aussie, living in Oz, and creating his art for follow Aussies! He had plenty of opportunities to have deals overseas, predominantly in the USA, with even a personal recommendation from Sammy Davis Jnr!! but....he wanted to stay in his home country and raise his family, and just tour here for his fans here. Not that he hates the rest of the world, but he is just a home body that loves his own country and its people. He is such a talent, can sing any genre of music, and is up there with the very best of singers/performers in the world. He captivates the audience, holds them with him like they are family, jokes around like a larrikan, and thats why we all love him so much. He is a national treasure.....

It's important to remember that John Farnham, while a household name in Australia since the 1960's, didn't break through as a major solo artist until his twelfth album (yeah, 12th!). Prior to that, he mostly sang covers of popular UK and USA hits aimed at teen audiences and tailored for the Australian market. By the time he did break through, he'd cultivated such enormous brand recognition, it simply made economic sense to ride the wave. It proved to be the correct call - he is still Australia's highest selling domestic market recording artist (x25 Platinum) and has performed more 'last ever' tours than (my guess) any artist in the world.

Although it’s correct that John wanted to stay here with his family and had a lot of success in Aust., there was an issue that was well described in a post here 1 year ago by “The Ghost” about the attitude and musical tastes of those who control a lot of the music industry in the USA. John Farnham was exposed to them during the few years when he replaced Glen Shorrock of the Little River Band. There’s a YT video of him singing their big hit “Reminiscing”. Considering the musicians who John worked with in “Touch of Paradise” and his other hits, I think these people resonate with him better and they’re like his family too. He may have considered them in his decision.

You're the Voice was one of John's first big hits (no.1) in Australia, UK, Scandinavia etc. and his record company gave it to US group Heart for the Americas (North & South) release. I guess Australia's small population worked against the company's financial expectations at the planning stages. Besides John is a family man and loves this country. How could the exulted 1987 Australian of the Year live overseas? I hope you've heard John sing Gethsemane on Sydney's final night of Jesus Christ Superstar. Superlative.

No, it was simply a matter of the song just not charting well in the U.S. (Usually down to lack of airplay, or being played on the wrong stations, etc). It got to No. 1 in Sweden and Germany. Top 10 in the UK, Ireland, Switzerland, Denmark and Austria. It only got to number 13 in NZ. It got into the Top 20 in the Netherlands and even in Canada. The best spot it reached on the charts in the U.S was 82. And that was only after it was re-released due to another of his songs "Two Strong Hearts" doing so well in the adult contemporary charts.

Whispering Jack came out when I was 2. My parents owned the album and I wanted to listen to it all the time. One day at the shops I saw a display of the album. That is the day I got my first cassette player and album as I refused to leave without my own copy. Unfortunately my parents weren’t able to afford to take me to one of his shows growing up. He did have a concert on my 21st birthday but I missed it due to illness. Then he retired. Again. Finally, when he did the 25 year anniversary tour of Whispering Jack my mum was able to score tickets for us to go. It was the best birthday present as it was the week of my birthday. As we were walking back to the car I overheard a security guard in an alley mention John Farnham and realised that was where he was exiting. So I got to meet him and get his signature. My mum told him the story about me getting the album through shear stubbornness at 2 and he said that was the youngest fan he had ever heard of and wished me happy birthday. JPF did not want to leave home, where he was a fabulous horse rider cutting cattle, played in the stage show Pippin as a young man, and lived to make the magic on stage. I cannot remember how many concerts I went to in Melbourne Australia. He could could hit a F note so easily. Thanks for the gift John.

So your only now getting into John Farnham, yeah I agree with Deb B,he had the chance to make millions overseas but wanted to stay here in Australia, and us Aussie love him for it.At heart John is an Aussie and he does what no other performer does, he talks to the audience and listens, and he can talk to his audience and the crowd know his songs and can take over and he loves it,In one of his concerts his band and backing singers and even the audience got him to sing,Rain Drops and Sadie, even though he didn't want to go there he sang it in the end. What John does that not many others do ,is do a song and can make it his own without trying, he is a LENGEND,

We migrated to Australia in 1974 from Holland and my husband wondered than why he had not made it big in Europe with his voice, l suspect that it’s because they wantend to sell their own products like Little Green bag. Radar love, l ‘m your Venus, Missisippi etc. John had little succes in 1986 in Europe but apart from that it a crying shame he was not further recognised. Check out his cover version of “ Only Women Bleed” almost forgot he had a hit here in 1999 together with The group called Human Nature called “ Every time you cry. Keep up your great work.

Yep another beauty from our John, a great song from Ross Wilson. Ross had his own career with bands like Daddy Cool and Mondo Rock. He actually appeared on one of John's show I went too and did this as a duet with John..wonderful to see the sincere and ultimate respect he holds for his fans and fellow musicians like Ross. I know you love him and that is wonderful to know, at least with you reacting to him more of America and the world now also gets to hear this amazing beautiful and down to earth man. Keep Safe Keep Strong My Dear Friend Love and Hugs from Australia

Roos Wilson - the song writer was the head of two iconic Australian bands - Daddy Cool, and Mondo Rock. He also wrote a hit for his then wife Pat Wilson. If you ever look up her song "Bop Girl" it's the first appearance of Nicole Kidman. She was only 15 in that video. Daddy Cool's song "Eagle Rock" is one of the best Australian songs ever. "Come Back Again" is also good WIth Mondo Rock their biggest hit was "Come said the Boy", but "Cool World" is my favourite.
