Hi John farnham fans. I'm nearly 80 and this masterpiece of music still energises me, makes me feel alive. It should be the entire world's anthem - everyone should listen to it.

Apart from listening to John Farnham, is there any advice you can give us to get to our 80s??🙂THX!
@EileenSpeakman Жыл бұрын
Well, guess it's genetics (mum was 95 when she passed. And she smoked until into her 70s, and was still enjoying wine to the end). Don't think "old", don't carry with you negativity from your earlier life experiences, learn to not let the past dictate your emotions now, that's destructive and you're worth far more than that, so believe in yourself. Never allow negative people/feelings into your life, and if they do creep in then watch It's a Long Way to the Top... Store in your mind not only the sheer energy from that song but also the love between John and his fans, and remember it. No one has a perfect life but we can choose to make rhe best of it.
@EileenSpeakman Жыл бұрын
And - I cry when I see and hear perfection - ice skater years ago, Donald Jackson? Canadian? , a friend who is a concert pianist - more than perfection, he plays with heart and soul and you can hear that emotion in his playing . And John Farnham? . The total package. 'nuff said?

Back in late 1988, my first year in college, we were getting exposed to all kinds of new music. And like most 18 year old kids, we thought that we could take on the world and listened to songs like We Built This City by Starship, Everybody Wants to Rule The World by Tears for Fears, The Living Years by Mike and The Mechanics... and this song below more than any other song at the time. Incidentally, I had forgotten the name and the lyrics of this song over the years but it's upbeat, marching band with the bagpipes was stuck in my head till today. I even asked my engineering college friends if they could remember the song we used to play the most and yet, I could not give them any meaningful clues. Then, here in Melbourne, I suddenly heard this song play on.the radio and I almost pulled over. Actually, I did pull over, to Google the lyrics right away only to realize that John Farnham is actually Australian himself! To most, it might seem like any other power ballad, to me and many of my friends, this song reminds me of some of the happiest times in our college life.

Good post. I think the internet have destroyed Humanity. Its true, or at least keeping lower-middle class exited with clips and funny stuff on the internet. I grew up when normal people stopped outside the grocery store to talk 20 mins asking normal questions. Now people are afraid, manipulated from internet, goverments, psychos playing on other people getting afraid. People sitting home analyzing things. Today I saw a guy in our truck, he was watching 400 clips in 20min on the way to the customer. Hes neck was like the letter L and His brain had transformed into a maximum of 3 seconds memory thinking the rest is deleted from internet. Anyway good song.

One of THE greatest "message" songs of all time. I was seventeen the first time I heard it and it still has that power to make me wonder why the whole world hasn't listened to it and acted on the message twenty seven years later. A truly iconic rock song that should be heard by every living soul and taken on board. Classic is simply too mild a world to describe what this song is. It's past that, it towers over most of the music of the eighties and since as if the others are ants scurrying around in the shadow of a mountain.

This song is a genuine masterpiece. The 80s was and always will be the dominant music genre. The words have never been so meaningful! Choreography of the whole thing is just incredible and my personal opinion, when the bagpipes come in that’s when the goosebumps kick in. My goal as a future dad will be to never let the 80s die.

'The 80s was and always will be the dominant music genre' - nope. It may have been for you, but for a person of say, 70 years old it was the 60's/70's, for a person of 22 it was maybe 4 or 5 yrs ago. It seems to be whenever you were young and alive and unencumbered by career or mortgages or children etc and everything was an adventure or party - that's when you thought YOUR music was the best, most meaningful, pressed all of your emotional buttons. Anyone who was 16-25 in the 50's, 60's, 70's etc believed their decade was the best for music, and it was as true for them as it is for you.
