I've studied many portfolios and this one is impressive. I'm astound that these photos are all candid, full frame and exposed with available light. Your compositions and content recognition is superb plus your juxtaposed metaphors and character appearances are insightful because you understand the essence of the moment. John Free you are one of the all time greats, it was a pleasure to observe your work.

Although it's not in this video, John's picture of the handicapped boy crawling towards the beach has well and truly lodged itself into my imagination. When it pops up into my mind I don't think of the photo so much as the image, as though I've seen it myself and my own personal perception keeps it fresh and vivid, when it's really just the quality of the shot. It's one of my favourite photo's, if not my favourite.

You see a lot of people on youtube with photography channels with a huge following but very little talent. It's so refreshing to find one who has amazing work. Keep it up!

Thanks Robbie. I must dedicate myself to sitting down and putting a book together. I must switch from photographer to book maker. Thank you for the first great comment on our new video. Each image flashing on the screen and in my head and memory at the same time. My friend Deeno and I are sitting here smiling. Thanks to Deeno, my photos are reaching out across the world. Thank you Robbie.

Your work is so inspiring! After stumbling on this channel a month or so ago (and after found you on Instagram) I became addicted to your photos and your words. You have such a unique and cultured perspective on photography and human life! I am an amateur photographer with no clear path of what is my favourite 'style' or technique and I can seem to find one (and that kills me because I love photography and I want to 'settle down' and explore) but I just know that I will apply your teaching to whichever 'style' I fall in love with the most! Hell, I'll even consider your words when I take a photo with my phone. Thank you for your amazing work. The world wouldn't be the same without you!

Mr Free, I have a question for you. Is the 'golden age' of photography past us... are opportunities such as the ones in your photos still available in this day and age or is the world of true emotion and situation tapped out? I hope it's not a stupid or insulting question.
@JohnFreePhtography
@JohnFreePhtography 7 жыл бұрын
Not a stupid question. Not insulting to me at all. Thank you for being polite and respectful. There are now many more millions of photographers working today than in the "Golden" age, whenever that was. Maybe 1930-1960? I think maybe the odds of getting a good photograph are better today than way back when. More people, easier travel, More and better cameras, ect. Street photography seems to be a "fad" for many who enjoy strolling with a camera, but not really working hard at it. Being a pro for many years has shown me how different photography becomes when the photographer is paid large sums of money to photograph for a client. The money causes pressure. The pressure makes the photographer work much harder. I found working on pro jobs to be very stimulating and I found my photographs were better than when I worked for myself. The pro works very hard, compared to the average photographer. For me, hard work produces better photos. I would work 12-16 hours per day on some jobs, but at the end of the day I would have many more good ones than if I were on my own time. Hard work, dedication to purpose and a respect for how hard it is at times to make a photo that can stand up to the best. A great respect for the medium and for oneself. My son Scott and I have been teaching together for 25 years and in that time we have found that giving a photographer the chance to work on an important photo project gets much better results than if that photographer worked on his or her own time,without the added pressure of money and a limited time element to complete the project. Subject is all around us all the time. Study and practice and a good respect for photography and what it holds for mankind is essential. Thank you for your question and giving me the chance to answer with a wish to help all of us to be better and loving photographers.

I shoot digital. Auto shutter speed, auto iso. My job is much easier. Still, my photos are not better from technical aspect than these. From artistic aspect... I am not compareable to John. I have to practice a few decades, I think. :D @reku_papa_walks_the_streets
