yup, take a listen to the intro of Purple Haze by Jimi. It's in a different key, but the solo of Dani is definitely paying tribute to that song.

I remember watching this a couple of years ago, when i knew nothing about production side of the music, and had no clue what he was talking about, but now that i learned about mixing/mastering, it's a strange and surreal feeling that I can perfectly understand what he explains. I've never felt more connected to John and his ideas ever before by watching this again today

Thank you to the person who posted this video - Parts 1 and 2. Hearing John explain everything that went in to this song, makes me appreciate it all the more! First time I heard Dani California though, I knew it would always be in my Top 5 of RHCP's songs. Pure brilliance!

+nonnanevrotica I think he is also doing amazing music on his own. In fact my favourite album is The Empyrean, that came out in 2009. Also love his post crazyacidsynthrappop stuff a lot. You just can feel love and passion on everything he's been doing since Mothers Milk. (Sorry for my bad english)

The chords John plays form 0:35 are: D-minor (from bass E-string) x5776x, 0:39 F-diminished with open E 089797, 0:42 G#-diminished with open E 0 11 12 10 12 10. I spent some time figuring out how he had played that so maybe someone will find my work helpfull.
