This is the strongest song i've heard ever. The feeling in this one is just so sad and depressing, you can feel how lost he was at that time. " John where are you ? " This line hits me so hard, this songs is for very few people to understand. I feel so close to John when i listen to this.

Prisms Edits Very sad and emotional, he said it himself that he felt like an impostor in his own life at that time. It's funny because from all the music i've listened to, the only one that has a place deep inside my soul is our lost friend John, crawling in an abyss of confusion and despair while his teeth were falling off, ready to die with pieces of flesh rotting on his arms. This is pure art, this is the strongest possible feeling, driving you around in such a chaotic universe of sorrow and lost hope. This is not music for everyone, this is not music to listen while drinking your coffee or while going to school, this is pure madness, a trip to hell meant to take you to the highest level the human mind can reach. Sometimes i doubt John is even human considering his life story and his spirituality of talking to ghosts and spirits. Damn, wish i will meet him some day to thank him for everything he has done for us...

I lost my mom a year ago to this day. When she passed I immediately went to this song. I couldn’t put into words how I felt. This song made me feel what I needed to within the shock of it all. When my grandparents passed, I went to Niandra Lades. I don’t know. John’s music has been there during the worst parts of my life. I reflect on my mom today and this is the only song or thing I can listen to that can match how I feel.

I can relate to that pretty well. When John said "I thought I saw the light" I had to pause and take 15 minutes to reflect about what the album has been till that moment. This LP is extremely strong and probably one of the most difficult to sit through on a first time. This song specially is one of my favorites from the album. you either listen to it once and never do it again or you find yourself extremely related to the content, the misery. But well, that's just my opinion:]

This is one of my favorite Frusciante songs, simply because of how much expression was squeezed out through his pain. Most people don’t have a way of sharing their story like this, thankfully John was able to share

He says "goodnight sweet friends" not to people He says it to the spirits, with which he was a friend during heroin years And all that screams are like sprit's crying, because John was about to leave them Just my opinion, don't judge strictly🙂

I didn’t get John’s solo stuff at first. Then I really got it when I relaxed and let go of my expectations of what I wanted his music to be or for him to match the chili’s or whatever. I still enjoy more mainstream music and plenty of his solo stuff is catchy, but I started caring more about who John was as a person and his ability to express his truth through music. Now I relate to and enjoy all art in general in a whole new great way. Thank you John.

what this song means is very simple, if you were addicted to dope yourself. i was for a 2 years with only 2 months of sober in between and lemme tell you, when you do it for that long n john did it for longer u seriously lose yourself, you become lost, your soul, mind, personality, basically who u are is just plain lost and replaced by the dope u. this song basiclaly is saying dat he is getting clean or is clean for a bit and that while clean he is slowly finding himself again, hence the title.

@taviargue absolutely thought so myself too last night. Especially once the song approached the end, and he became even more melancholic in his voice and the guitar playing became sloppy... and the ending when his voice dissipates in senseless distortion... I think he really had no perspective of living beyond this point. Actually the song was recorded in 1994, when he was a sick druggy hermit as you can see in the VPRO interview.
