+Ignacio Pezo yeah Omar wrote all of this, they said so in an interview, and i dont understand why some of you fucks that probably dont even play music have anything to say, its about the energy and how it fills in with the vibe at the moment, if you knew about music werre not in medieval times where certain scales and chords were prohibited and everything was based on simple cadences etc, we can RECORD our music now to the point that from MY view. Music at its greatest even surpasses Cinema in all of the imagery which is actually sound and is interpreted by the audience in its like a telepathic way, its like the telepathic way of making movies to me. has nohing to do with any rules, its Art dawg

Lol, I guess they both involve somewhat similar arpeggios, but the riff that starts at 2:16 is far more similar to "tetragrammaton" by Omar's most noted project "the Mars Volta". John Frusciante's part here is also something straight out of the tmv playbook, albeit with more of a "De-loused in the Comatorium" vibe.

Texturally this feels a lot like Adrian Belew and Fripp, as people mentioned the Crimson element. Obviously all three players up here are very different stylistically and all share in a certain virtuosic bravado, Frusciante's loose dynamic to rhythmically complex material like this is reminiscent of Belew whereas the Fripp influence on Omar is much more evident. Personally, without the risks Omar takes musically, the genre, if not electric guitar playing generally, will fall to the banal monotonous spell of everything else. We should consider ourselves lucky to have such a publicly recognized musician taking the risks Omar does. If you want predictable and unchallenging you can find that everywhere.
@Fernfrond
@Fernfrond 9 жыл бұрын
+Fredo F. I agree with backing anything Omar does, lol. His ballsiness with throwing all his experiments into the public eye is appreciated. The world would be a sad place if we tried to keep familiar structure in everything we do, not allowing for any deviation.

Slowing down the video helps if you want to play along. Introduction is in E minor, both guitars strumming on a single note idea on E. I can't get the first two-part bass riff but It goes Em-C-Bm then ends on G. Now repeated but this time Em-Dm-Gma7-C#m-C. Then fade out and cue the bass riff. It''s the notes E, G, B and C, with some variations. With the bass riff going, Omar arpeggiates Em7 and John plays a solo on the notes B, G and F# ending on E. 2:57 John plays the notes F#, A, E, G, D#, F#, D and E. Omar and Flea fills it out with the chords F#m, Amajor, E major, G major, B major, Eminor and D. Then back to E minor bass riff amd then the riff at 2:57 again. Main bass riff. Then impro on the chords from the 2:57 riff. John truly blasts away here. 5:33 is a variation of the main bass riff in the key of F#.

we musicians with raw talent fine tune our craft with theory and develop and understand the rules of keys, modes, relative majors and minors etc... only to master and break all rules and chew them up and spit in theories faces!!! this body of art is three modes molded together to create a beautiful master piece...

Pretty sure this was just an open mic or similar thing they just rolled up on while tmv and the peppers were touring together so they probably came with the guitars in the road cases and not the straps that have bulky wireless packs on them. Flea and John played 2 sets every night during that tour. For the mars voltas first album flea and John were actual members and played on the whole album. Since then John has played on all of the mars voltas albums (maybe not the upcoming album but I hope so) john even recorded every guitar track you hear on amputechture so omar could listen, engineer and produce his own parts without having the stress of playing them as well. he just instructed John on exactly how he wanted it done. John also did a lot for bedlam in Goliath you can even hear him count in the 4 on things behind the sun.

@@cremejockey8636 This is after the By The Way tour ended, as they're in LA and it's 2004; Fru was doing crazy solo stuff that year, Ataxia plus 6 solo releases all in 2004, so he couldn't have been touring.
