Its only natural solo and the tone is definitely the best John. Reminds me much of Greatest Hits mini tour around 2004 which for me is their best. John played so damn great melodies with great tone on every show. Just check out the 04 parc de princes gig.

I still prefer his older tone even though it's nice that he has the both pedals on his paddleboard and I'm not sure if he was using maybe the big muff in conjunction with that or the fuzzrite but the point is that I like the little bit more fuzzy sound of the 2006 era..

Love the SD-1! Been using one for a few years and recently added another to my board, both largely make up my gain section.. I usually run the level at or near max, tone around noon, and drive usually no more than 9:00. Pushes my Marshall SV20 beautifully. I have a Rams Head big muff in between the two drives so that I can get different flavors of fuzz based on which one is on

At first I wasn't sure about John's more subtle / less agressove lead tone choices but now I see a lot of maturity in them. Especially with the don't forget me example. Improvisation aside (the iconic la cigale improvisation will always be legendary). I think I actually prefer the newer tone. To me it's more musical and melodic and sits in the mix nicer. The older tone is cutting and compressed and sounds very... Mid 2000s. Not bad but a relic of it's time. I'm saying this as someone who basically ripped this tone for my main lead tone. Anyways cool vid

See RHCP in London just over a week ago and I ordered an SD-1 probably a day or two later. Pretty much always used a DS-2 but discovering that he stacks pedals I've completely reordered my signal chain and have maybe hit gold 😂

I think both don't forget me solos are awesome, the magic it's on his hands as we know, they are both incredible tones. Talking about the new era I wanted to say that I love playing Carry me Home on my guitar, it's a super fun song for play, and also I wanted to mention that the super organic tone of fake as fu@k blow me away.

I think that’s how the solo for Black Summer was recorded was supposed to be with the Variac Fuzz and the SD-1

for Don't Forget me in Stadium Arcadium era the Wah Wah was setting right after the distortions pedals, today he has switch setting the Wah before the distortions, that's why the big difference.

He is still using wah after distortion and you can clearly hear it in Dani California. The visual pedal order isn't the same as the actual signal chain

I just miss the original wh10 tone and bite...he choose to go more neutral. And I think it makes sense regarding the UL sound and the space he leaves to the rest of the band.

Really cool my SD1 arrived today. Does anybody know if you can just have 2 Vodoo lab power pedal, if you have to many pedals.? Because the vodoo lab just powers 8 Pedals and i have more now.

Hi Justin! Hope you're doing well. I found John's 2022 tone to be a lot more "cleanish" than his 2006 tone, which was known as a "dirty clean tone" (the "holy grail tone" for RHCP/Frusciante fans). Do you believe this is because of his "new" JMP2203? Or he just rolled back a little bit on the gain?

He uses different settings on the Silver Jubilee and Major. He has lowered the volume on both amps (which means less gain) now compared to 1999 till 2007.

I've never been a fan of Black summer live. I've heard it in person and on every show of UL tour. It's just not a good live song. Also only time in history John's solo's sound, "messy". I think between the dropped tuning plus heavy chorus it sounds muddy.
