Can you make about covering of his heroes? Like SRV Clapton BB King? The story is well known but don’t hear him play those songs much. Btw nice video, you put a big effort in this one again!

is it possible the signature model was on going project when john left the band? (was it like 2009?)... maybe him leaving the RHCP put the project on hold (?) he rejoined some years ago now and fender might feel is time again to put this one out again? just thinking if this could be possible. that could also explain abigail being involved at that moment and bringing her back now

Justin, love the content man. As a long time Mayer fan but fairly new gearhead, I’ve got to ask: does Mayer play those amps at the same time? Like stack them? Or does he just cycle through them depending on the song?

I think eventually AI will be able to determine details like this. For example, what guitar was used on a particular song, and which effects were used. There has to be subtle details that the human ear can't hear. I thought of this because there are a handful of Hendrix guitars out there that can't be truly authenticated because people claim that they were only used on studio recordings, so there's no photo proof. Imagine playing a few chords on a guitar and AI telling you exactly what songs were recorded with it - kind of like facial recognition in your photo gallery..

Hi Justin, i think it would be cool if you showed us your personal pedalboard, or do a cool gear rundown of what you have. You definitely got some great stuff. I'm kinda new to the channel and last time i suggested something i noticed later that you already had a video of it...But if you haven't already, i think you should make that video.

you see he doesnt give a f about hi appearance anymore which is a good thing. he went from cool womanizer type to chilled out clapton 90s style with reminiscent glasses on top. he doenst want to attract the girls anymore. is that a wrong note at 5:30, it seems, also like he behaves shortly after but you also see it doesnt bother him. makes him human. or is this note supposed to be like that and i am wrong? edit: oh at 5:44 he plays wrong note mulitple times on purpose. either to make fun of what happended at 5:30 , seems most logical. or this solo is supposed to sound like that? i am not that familar. but in standard terms those notes ar clearly not fitting at 5:44
@mrlukejanthony
@mrlukejanthony 16 сағат бұрын
I think 5:30 is perhaps a not wholly accurate bend but 5:44 is definitely on purpose and reminiscent of the great Robert Cray - wringing out those notes for all they're worth and going a bit sharp for the dramatic tension. That's my take on it anyway.

John Mayer, born in 1977 invented his 1962 and 1964 Stratocasters. They did not exist before him. Blues did not exist before him. Strings didn’t either. Music was just white noise. Then John Mayer came along and taught David Gilmour, Pete Townsend and SRV how to play the Stratocaster, thus influencing iconic albums such as Dark Side Of The Moon(1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), all albums by The Who and Dire Straits. He actually played the strat on all Hendrix records instead of Jimi. And don’t get me started on Cream, which played Mayer’s pre-recorded tracks on all of their concerts, with Clapton and winwood just pretending to play.

The black Klon is clearly Gooped. It is "painted" with Goop. You know, where the diodes get their magic from. The Goop. The Klon gets it's magic from the Gooped board. Your gotta take it to the next level and Goop the entire pedal. JHS discovered this with the Notaklön, of course. It's all in The Goop. You're supposed to paint your entire Notaklön with the included Goop to get the true JM tone. The tone is in the Goop.

This rig has no sustain. I get more sustain from my squire and roland cube amp. Example: Few times during the solo John is trying to vibrate the note that becomes dead in no time. Even his legato playing was sketchy that day. And we all know this is not due to the lack of technical skills. John said a few times that he must be inspired by the rig itself to perform at his best and that clearly didn’t happen that night. To me this is why so many of us feel something is off with john’s palying. And to stir it up even more - undeniably through the years and thanks to dead&co John’s become more versatile and even more capeable player. However I feel like more and more often during his performances I start to miss some things that made me fall in love with his playin in the first place when i first heard him during the where the light is concert. To sum it up can i please have my Fender John backxd

have you ever heard of the 2019 tour? please i highly encourage you to play any show from that era and used the silver sky for 90% of those shows and sounded better or as good as he did in his “fender days”, it has NOTHING to do with the guitar, it’s purely him just trying new things, still the same dude playing that guitar!!

My opinion was probably tiny bit to controversial and exaggerated. John was is and will be my favourite guitarist. Just because i’m not into this particular tone or performance, i wont stop beeing his fan, i wont stop searching yt for every concert video from any of johns eras there is and i wont stop going to see him life whenever he’s in europe. On the other hand yet here i am a simple guy with a soft spot for his ‚fender tones’ and nostalgia for continuum and wtli times.

I honestly think the silver sky is a little stale. Notes do indeed buzz out when bending and you can see it. I had one and it just didn't have the "feel" like my fender cs 1964 strat.

The people that listen to him a lot esp the live stuff.. will agree that this wasn’t his best tone and not even close. Reason being was it wasn’t his usual rig and not his band. He probably was nervous. I think her purposely tried to play too clean and dry to not hide behind stuff for all the guitarists in the audience. Who knows. But this is pretty far from his tone and he tried a little too different of an approach in my opinion. He looks up to a lot of modern guitar players and they were there watching him so he probably tried to simplify. His Silver sky works with his rig but if it’s just the PRS amps which I’m sure is because duh it is the anniversary show so he kinda had to. For everyone saying it sucked, no it didn’t. It was just a little off to his normal routine and shows.

But the rig he used there is 90% of what he was using in 2024 with the Dumble Bandmaster which he got recently and a Fender Twin Reverb apart from the PRS DG15 amp which is the first time us seeing him use it. My thing is we all fell in love with JM because of his great tone and amazing playability now that doesn’t mean John can’t venture out and try a new tone he can because he’s John Mayer it’s just there’s a lot of us who love that Continuum/JM3/Born and Raised Tone which all includes at least a Two Rock JM Sig, Dumble Steel String Singers or a Dumble Overdrive Special that is thee formula for the great JM tone check any performances that have them amps in the set up it’s phenomenal. So I kinda agree with the rest of the comments his tone here ain’t good tbh and I’m not hearing the he was nervous stuff lol the man played at Michael Jackson’s Funeral with out any in ears and played Human Nature flawlessly which is a Thriller album classic he was prewired to do this for a living

Ig anyone wants to sound like JM. Learn to play guitar really well. Learn finesse, no pick finger playing. If you buy all of his pedals And put them in the same order as JM did. Then you grab a pick and start hacking at the guitar, you will still sound like shit coming out of a Walmart rig. It’s in your fingers- then you can buy some cool gear and enhance it.
