Step 2 of the design of a 3D printed clock with a twin pivot Grasshopper escapement : First clock run prototype
The design of the escapement is based on the information I found here:
base on COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN of HARRISON TWIN PIVOT and TWIN BALANCE GRASSHOPPER ESCAPEMENT GEOMETRIES by David Heskin

Wonderful clock. Everything should be adjustable, pendulum, cheeks… Looking forward to hearing about accuracy

Nice clock. I like the removable body to make adjustments without having to remove the pendulum. I tried a few grasshopper clock experiments. It needed a lot more drive weight to run compared to a similar sized deadbeat escapement. All the energy used to lift the pallet arms is lost after they release. Try reducing the counter-weights to the minimum needed to return to the resting position. Less energy used to lift the pallet arms means the clock should run with less drive weight.

Thanks Yes 12 kilo's for a 4 day run, that is the same as 3 kilo for one day, that is 50% more than the deadbeat escapement, that is not too bad It is just that 12 kilos on the PLA frame is a lot I am going to double the size of the drum for a start Maybe I will switch to some kind of remontoir with electric motor like the burgess clock B Lots of little things to tune up, balance the anchor, pallets with just enough lift when realeased

@@jacquesfavre999 Wow, 12kg is a lot of weight. This seems like your longest running clock. The low friction of the pendulum support probably helps. I agree that grasshopper escapement are probably not as efficient as a deadbeat. I think the rate changes when you change the drive weight, similar to an anchor escapement.

I'd better hurry up and finish your last creation so I can buy the plans of this when your final design is completed. I love building your clocks and filling up one of my walls nicely, I don't put them on the wall of my conservatory any more as had a partial melt down and distort due to the heavy bob weight.

cuckoo is good for getting the Clock in beat, but you should measure with an accurate quartz watch that has a second hand. Small adjustments will require special knobs with the calibration, then You can adjust the clock in three measurements.

I am also in the middle of printing out one of your design's at a reduced size on my resin printer so I wonder how that will work out
