I seen Mr. Hartford in St. Louis years ago and he tapped on a sheet of amplified plywood while playing and singing. What a great performance that was.

😆 I love John Hartford! I clicked on this, not recognizing the title of this song, but oh boy the lyrics came back to me instantly and there I was, happily singing along, a big smile on .my face. 😊 I was fortunate enough to see many many of his shows in the late '70s/early '80s in the Chicago area. He was always wonderful, and many of my CDs of his music are personally autographed. Back in the goodle days... 😏 💕 RIP John, seeya on the other side...

In the 70's a local rock station had a Sunday morning bluegrass show that opened and closed with this.

I know this is strange, but this song reminds me of my childhood! 😆 My parents had some songs from KFAT radio in Gilroy, CA, and they played them a lot after the station shut down. This song, I'm 90% sure, was on their tape. I remember laughing at it when my mom told me what it was about.

KFAT: The greatest radio station of all time. It was the background music to my young life, when I was free.

Dinah Shore said that Gentle on My Mind was the most anti-feminist song she'd ever heard. She missed this one! Great tune.

@Thomas Cox All I can say is that I saw him in concert in Decatur, Illinois and as he was doing "The Golden Globe Award (a song about a girl's breasts) he paused and said that Dinah Shore told him that. Frankly, I don't quite see why "Gentle on My Mind" is anti-feminist, myself.

Crap song...lowest point of a great songwriter's career. I really do not believe, to the depths of my soul, that this was KFAT's Cousin Al's favorite Hartford song. I meant to talk it over with him one day, but now it's too late. RIP Alan from Fooba Wooba John.
