This song series might have saved my life, more than once, over the last two decades. Thank you, John.

I was ordering a drink at a bar in tulum, and struck up a conversation with a patron. I said I was from winnipeg. My new acquaintance was super enthused that I was from where john is from. Proud moment.

John introducing the song in a humorous way is probably what led part of the audience to take the song lightly, but hearing people laugh at songs that you're emotionally connected to is really nerve wrecking

agreed, i am a little ashamed to say that i felt near hostile to the laughing. this trilogy of songs is so important to me on a deep emotional level, it's very very weird watching people view it as essentially comedy.

to be fair this song deals with serious subject matter in a fairly sardonic way. and if he'd continued with Virtute Explains Her Departure and Virtute At Rest, not a soul would have been laughing by the end lol

I love hearing the crowd laugh in enjoyment of John’s witty lyrics. One of my all time favorite songs!

This song makes me cry every time I hear it

Thanks for watching and commenting..... If it evokes emotion, then some of the live performance has actually come through, which makes me feel like I captured at least some of the feeling of being there. :)

Hahaha, the bartender shaking a mix drink when Jon is peaking the emotional story. It's so unfortunate but it is also the most Jon K. Samson thing I can imagine, thanks for uploading.

Hahaha this is remarkable. I also find it kinda cute that some people laugh after every line, which makes me think it was their first time hearing John's music/poetry and makes me glad that they have the most natural reaction to one of the best songs ever.

@@alessandrosolis True. I would love to hear this live, but if I was there almost everyone would be asking, "Dude, what's wrong? Are you ok? why you crying?" haha

Everytime i hear this i want to cry. It reminds me of my late doge. To me, this is actually, a plea from the dog named mica.
