About to take my first porter flight, Toronto to Halifax. Not impressed so far. I booked through Air Miles, where the information I was shown was that checked bags would have a fee. Fine. That is normal for airlines these days. So I would just use a carry on. However on checking with Porter customer service to confirm, I was told by a phone agent that I need to pay an extra $50!!!! just to have a regular carry on suitcase that goes in the overhead bin. That's the carry ons that are usually included free with every other airline I have flown. There was absolutely no information about this when I booked the flight. I was told by the phone agent if I go into my reservation and pay the $50 for my carry on, I get an extra bonus: my actual boarding pass, because otherwise I would need to go to the POrter check-in counter to get my boarding pass. Seriously??? In 2023, I still have to go and line up at the check in desk just to get a boarding pass rather than getting it on my phone the way every other airline does??? I have not boarded yet, and already I'm regretting choosing Porter.

It's nice to see Porter expanding with Jets. It's too bad they are not A220's but we can blame the local and Federal politicians for killing that deal when they rejected "jets" at Billy Bishop. If not for that jets would have been a reality at Billy Bishop long and not just for routes in North America but conceivably London UK!. Imagine having direct flights from the Island airport to Europe, Los Angeles, Vancouver and Mexico! I wonder if Porter is contemplating using these Embraer jets at Billy Bishop some day? Recent changes giving the Mayor "big city Mayor" powers probably means it could get approval by Mayor Tory and then it is just the Federal government to convince and the Liberals could be out of power in the not too distant future. These jets look every bit as comfortable inside then the A220 with their wide four abreast seats. Performance-wise and sound-wise I think they would be compatible for service at Billy Bishop. I bet they would be even quieter than the Q400's especially on landing. I live downtown and can hear the reversing prop-pitch when the wind is coming off the lake (I don't mind but it is noticeable).

Yeah, but they could have still ordered the 220's. They Chose the E2 as they tried to strong-arm the authorities. At the end of the day they are still flying out of YYZ.

The two guys sitting together in the 195-E2 seats clearly show how narrow and potentially uncomfortable the seats are. Maybe it would have been wiser for Porter to have acquired the A220.

I can assure you that they are as comfortable as any other jet! And because it doesn't have middle seats, it increases the impression of comfort

@@aloisioferrazdecamargo309 Air Canada had some, sold them off after 10 yeras because of high maintenance and high fuel burn, now they fly A220

​@@richardbanks6025 those were the older E1s, these are extremely economical and the wing technology without the winglets seems to contribute a lot!
