It's nice to see them trying some players out ahead of the deadline rather than a mad scramble all at once.

I like it, exploring your options, adding some depth at d, and taking a shot on a guy with a lot of upside that you can bury in the minors pretty easily if needed

1M + 350k signing bonus. 1.74M cap hit. Not sure this is a steal or anything, but I’ve doubted players picked up recently by the Oilers and have been pleasantly surprised. Hoping he’ll find some of that Dallas playoff energy again.

Low risk mid reward. Better than Josh Brown anyway.

Literally heard the news here first! I have no feels either way about this, I'm just hopeful and will wait to see before I have an opinion.

Awe no way, I heard it here first, Thanks Austin! Klingberg has not played since November 2023...hmmmm, but a puck moving defenceman is exactly what Nurse shines with, this could be interesting, by my count that will make 4 Swedish oilers!

Perrey has been an add and Klingberg brings a veteran experience IMO. After last night's game I trust in the staff big time.

I was a bit skeptical with this signing, but I'll trust Bowman and Jackson with this one I guess

It's a good experiment for Edmonton oilers. We shall see..😊

Honestly we can't really complain considering it's a low cost, low risk move. Hoping that he does well for us and he's able to regain his form. If not then we really didn't lose anything anyway.

I'm neutral overall on this. It's certainly zero-risk, which is good. But the thing i really like is that the Oilers' management are doubling down on puck-moving defensemen. A) Nurse does best with a good puck mover as a linemate B) By pushing their strengths even more, they'll be that much harder to play against. I personally always love big, bruising players and physical teams... but the Oilers clearly have a vision of the type of great passing, low penalty (aka disciplined) hockey they want to play - and are built for.. and it's looking better and better for them. So, a punishing type of defenseman would be fine, but might dilute what they're going for, and what's been working.

Assuming he’s coming in at/around league minimum and a one year deal, seems like a pretty low risk move. Can’t exactly say I’m too excited about it but certainly don’t have any issues with it.

I love the oilers farm team (leafs) some pan out some don’t. Just keep the pipeline strong

There's not much risk to this, if he sucks, they can just get rid of him easily
@gavin7772Күн бұрын
Love him or hate him Bowman has been absolutely cooking for this teams depth and has done an amazing job stopping the bleeding from Jeff Jackson’s decisions on jeff skinner and the offer sheet kids

I feel confident about this. Imagine what Coffey can do with JK. We have seen Coffey work magic with defensemen. This guy is a clean slate after being off for so long

I trust Austin's analysis over the incoherent writers at the Journal... "Low risk, high reward..."

With a deeper D core I hope they use this to bench Bouchard if he makes too many mistakes.

Swedish Defenseman in the early 30‘s that went to the Cup Final with good overall stats and was Alternate Captain. Pretty much an Ekholm copy

67 games in 22/23. 74 games in 21/22. Its not like he is playing 20 games a season. If he is healthy it is an extremely good add

Its 50/50 he either plays well or he dont , with the cap space WE will have , when the cap go's up i think signing a top 4 d man is essential
@clearrivergroupКүн бұрын
Not what I see the oilers needing on their defensive pairing. The biggest failings the current defensemen have is too many turn overs and almost total lack of physicality They need a solid defender that is not afraid to make contact with opposing sharp shooters.

Why in the world? He's not exactly a defensive defenseman and that's what we need!

No matter who you put next to Nurse, it is always disappointing because Nurse defensive hockey IQ is low, his skating and speed is mediocre. But nothing you can do with Nurse because he has a NMC and no team would want him at 9.25M with 5 more years. Oilers would have to eat 50% salary and add 5 1st round picks some teams maybe interested. K. Holland sucks.

Not a big fan because of this we now can’t go for more D. We need defensive d not offensive, we have Bouchard and kulack and sometimes nurse we need lockdown d. We also need a scoring winger to put with mcdavid or draisatal. Stan bowman is not on my good side for as of right now.
@michaelkeller5927Күн бұрын
This is literally zero risk though. If he's junk we send him down. If he's back in his Dallas form we have a guy to play with Nurse
