In the early 90’s I moved to Philly to play music. I had an old Oldsmobile with a mismatch hood and a greatest hits cassette of John Lee Hooker. Now that I’m older I look back and smile at all the trim I got in that car with John Lee Hooker as the soundtrack. R.I.P. King

It's genius how he mainly plays the one chord per song, he alludes to playing different ones in a progression but instead actually maintains the same chord. Sounds so simplistic but shows how intelligent his understanding is of progressions and phrasing, not like his guitar playing is in question at all.

Johnny fans - check out ‘drugstore women’ and ‘big legs tight skirt’. I’ve listened to each I’d say 36 times. Well, I did get interrupted once, but it only took me a few seconds to kill them. Yes- nothing but the best my friend. Indeed! Don’t forget r. L. Burnside folks if you don’t know him- figures if you love this man, well, you might love another as well. Why not? I don’t know but why- they both tend to ignore traditional 12 bar bar blues. It’s like Johnny just never quite ‘got’ the ‘need’ of a ‘constant’ ‘pattern’. Which is why I find him to be my fave of ‘em - as highlighted by my perky, lively verse. Check out R. L. Burnside ( ‘see my jumper hangin’ out on the line’ maybe my favorite song title of all time - because you indeed know that something may or may not be on his mind. I’m guessing it probably pretty much was. And THIS guy, one of the sexiest men, ever.

He was illiterate to the day he died, but was a genius. I saw a video of his manager helping him write his name on a stack of pick guards and it taught me not to judge someone because they have different talents than you. You don’t judge a great baker for not being a brain surgeon. This man touched souls and enhanced humanity and still does from beyond the grave….. oh yeah, and he couldn’t read or write, so.

Just imagine how many countries in the world wish they had ONE John Lee Hooker to call their native son. America has been…and will always be great because of the blues. You’re welcome, world.
@anr.de.balzac21 күн бұрын
If you research about the history, meaning and catalyst of Blues (as a musical genre, which, as any other musical genre, emerged in a historical context and not in a vacuum), then you will start perceiving Blues not as American merit and pride, but rather quite the opposite: as musical genre (on of many in African-American culture) as a way to sublimate suffering and suppression imposed on these people BY ‘great nation of America’.
