Great photos and presentation! Just listened to Cynthia's book on tape. Apparently she and John were hung over from a heavy drinking night out and then the organisers didn't tell John he was expected to give a speech. The event was about his first book coming out. John got up and just blurted out thanks and few words and sat down so the literary crowd and organisers were a bit shocked that he didn't give a proper speech.

I remember reading about this event I think in the Hunter Davis book. This event was in honor of Lennons 1964 book " In His Own Write". John really did not want to go and felt out of his element with the London literary crowd. The other Beatles were not there and he was asked to speak. He went up to the podium and mumbled " Thank you, Youve got a lucky face!" And fled back to his seat next to his wife..

I read somewhere that John's book was published on January 1st 1964. And clearly, by spring, everyone in the world, and certainly the arts world, was aware of it. So is it just coincidence that in the spring of 1964, Yoko Ono rushed to find a publisher for a coincidentally same-sized book of similar 'poems', but when no-one would publish it, she, feeling great urgency to get it out immediately, SELF-PUBLISHED on July 1st 1964? She tried to peddle them herself on the streets of Japan, but when they didn't sell, ended up giving most of them away just to get them 'out there' quickly. So that's how Yoko came to just happen to have a "book" of her own -- that was the first thing she showed John Lennon when she met him, and she used her "book" to get him to fund a gallery showing. Which she then requested be a "joint showing". When he refused she just coyly called the showing "Yoko and Me" so that everyone assumed the "me" was John Lennon. But on this day in April 1964, little did the beautiful Cynthia know that perhaps already a relentless dark cloud was aiming in her direction.

Pauline - The Yoko Bashing gets real old. Anyway, what matters (or should matter to a true Beatles/John fan, anyway) is that John felt Yoko was his one and only. And we should be happy for him. To John, Cynthia was rather dull.

John Lennon was a tall guy! He certainly was taller than original Paul. That's why these later photos of the Beatles don't make sense. They show that Paul is the SAME height as John. The only obvious explanation is that Paul was replaced by an imposter. I'm certain the British govt is in on the cover-up but they aren't talking. Smh

Cyn said in her book, that they had an extremely late night before this event and were suffering from massive hangovers. That’s why his acceptance speech was so short since he wasn’t aware that he would be expected to speak.
