Twist and Shout for it’s time was hard core rock and roll. John and the Beatles belted it out. It was as rough and raw as anything the Kinks or Stones did in 1963. The Beatles just did it better like everything else.

I always found the Beatles’ version of “twist and shout” to be horrible. They tried too hard with it. And even today, 2022, it’s still no good. The Isley Brothers did it better. IMHO

@@Jasper7182009 I disagree. From the opening note till the end it rocks. They did it two takes. That’s not trying to hard. On todays music they do it in 50 takes.

I was a young boy when the Beatles became popular, and the first time I heard Twist and Shout on the radio, I knew I had to have that record. I had never heard any one “scream-sing” like that, and I was totally mesmerized by it. I knew something was different about that whole album because all their voices were different than on the rest of their albums. In the United States, the album was called “Introducing the Beatles,” but I think everywhere else it was “Please Please Me”. Little did I know that John was sick and all of their voices were ragged after George Martin had them sing everything they knew all day long. That whole album was recorded in one day. You would never see such a thing nowadays.

Same thing here my friend, it's impossible to get the young people of today to understand the way the Beatles changed rock and roll. They can only listen to them and it sounds like anything else because they don't know what it was like at the time. Just know there are still people who were around then and agree with you.

It was John’s depleted energy from 12hrs of singing that made the song what it was. Those slips and strain are what the song calls for.

In many ways John was a child. I don't mean that as a shot but he had no mother (to speak of) which created alot of insecurity inside of him. Paul was hands-down the most talented musician in the band and as their time as Beatles went on and John realized that it's my humble opinion that he had a hard time dealing with it. All those songs mentioned, I always considered a shinning example of their brilliant diversity.

If he said he hated the song, I missed it. All I heard in this video is he hated the stress of trying to knock it out at the end of a long day of recording many other songs. There was no way to hate this song, and it was in fact a signature song for The Beatles initial monster success.

So many things misrepresented in this video. First of all, he clearly didn’t hate the song, just wishes he didn’t have a cold the day it was recorded, which impacted his vocal performance. The song was recorded in 1963 but wasn’t a billboard hit until 1964 when the Beatles came to America. The clips of them on the studio are all from the late 60s not the early 60s. The list goes on.

I always assumed Twist and Shout was something the Beatles performed in Hamburg and the Cavern Club. Kudos to George Martin for thinking of that, that's my favorite early Beatle performance videos with the boys doing the Little Richard "whooo" and shaking their now-famous Beatle hairdos. Lennon's criticisms always seemed more personal and don't always reflect on how good a song is. He once said "Yesterday" wasn't about anything while I think there might be a little jealously in that statement.
@pauls5096
@pauls5096 2 жыл бұрын
Perhaps Lennon meant "Yesterday" wasn't based on anything real. The music came to Paul....according to him....in a dream. Paul thought it must have been done by someone else already but it wasn't. When he originally sang it for George Martin he sang "Scrambled eggs."

@@pauls5096 I don't know, that's the most recorded song in history and I can't help thinking that bothered Lennon. It seems pretty clear to me what it's about. Lennon wrote "I Am the Walrus" so writing about something "not real" shouldn't have bothered him...
@pauls5096
@pauls5096 2 жыл бұрын
@@harrylazard805Two things about 'Walrus.' 1) John was tripping on LSD when he wrote some of that song and 2) He wrote the lyrics to throw people off. Everyone...including academics...were always trying to find deep meaning in the Beatles' lyrics (Yesterday?) so John threw them a curve ball. So in a sense, Walrus wasn't about nothing. It had a purpose. Also, Lennon's 'Imagine' is still used regularly in films, commercials etc, and is one of the biggest songs of all time so he really had no reason to be jealous. Imagine was huge before Lennon died. What's pretty clear to you about the song's meaning?

@@harrylazard805 You may in fact be on to something. Check out this article written in January 2022. Paul explains how it came to him in a dream and how he put the words together. According to John, he (John) thought the lyrics worked and were good but his gripe was the lyrics never came to a conclusion of the story. Also, from the article: "McCartney told the BBC: "The worst thing for John, was that he didn’t write Yesterday, I did. And he would get really quite biffed because you would be in New York and the pianist would go and hum the song. That would annoy him." And another friend of Lennon went on to confirm the star's frustration as well. Journalist Howard Smith said of the song: "Yesterday drove him crazy. People would say: ‘Thank you for writing Yesterday, I got married to it, what a beautiful song.’ He was always civil. But it drove him nuts." www.express.co.uk/entertainment/music/1555813/john-lennon-paul-mccartney-the-beatles-yesterday
