John Lennon mural in Pacific Beach vandalized beyond repair

The legendary John Lennon mural in Pacific Beach was destroyed with spray paint last week and the vandal’s actions were caught on camera.
“It was an iconic PB landmark,” said Leslie Dufour.
The longtime Pacific Beach resident says the mural, painted in 2006, was based on a famous photograph of Lennon. And it quickly made the neighborhood come together.

Some people are just assholes. I had a 4,500 square foot Coin and Collectible shop in Phoenix. Even with security system, cameras recording 24/7, metal gates across windows I still felt it was just a matter of time. Every coin shop owner I know has been robbed at least once. Best was when Mike Green of Phoenix Coin Shop had an attempted armed robbery. Got to see video even the cops and news didn't. Couple followed Mike into shop at opening and the man drew a handgun and pointed it at him. Mike then drew his Glock 9mm and shot the guy in the hip. His faithful sidekick tried to flee but door was shut. Mike kicked the assailants gun away then kicked him in the face. Held them both st gunpoint till PD arrived. They both got time. I ran my neighborhood and nobody even thought about trying. Slept on the couch and watched Seinfeld at night. Cooked on a grill outback. Would Wali right through groups of homeless shooting up and they all addressed me by sir. Dogs smell fear. They become full of fear when they know you have none.

Do you think that the vandals painting on monuments should face the same five years? Even vandals of Confederate monuments? My thoughts are that UNTIL the vandals of monuments are arrested, charged, and tried for their crimes, THIS vandal cannot be arrested, charged, or tried for THIS crime. An eye for an eye. Just because a person doesn’t like, or agree with the subject of a monument, or a mural, does not give the person a right to damage the monument or mural he is she doesn’t agree with *unless* the monument or mural BELONGS to the person. I love The Beatles, but there are so many beautiful and historical murals that have been vandalized in my neighborhood that will never see the light of day again, they were landmarks of the neighborhood and have been left tagged and graffitied for years.
