He was my music history prof. Anyway he never took money, his payment was, to sit in on the Beatles sessions. He saw them working out all the parts with George Martin, and strumming on the acoustic, and recording. So before you go off half cocked with the conspiracies just know they were a band that put in more work than any other band on the planet. Look up their time in Germany. Only the four of them knew what it was like to be a Beatle. Paul always wanted to be a Beatle and has kept being one all these years. George was frustrated by having L&M overriding his songwriting contributions (helped along by George Martin’s devotion to the duo). Ironically, the product of that frustration was All Things Must Pass, the best solo product of any of them. John was a troubled and restless soul - look at his upbringing - and felt constrained by all things Beatle. Ringo just moved on and continued with his zest for life. Yoko was right, it was remarkable they even came together so maybe we should just be happy that they did. I know I am.

Having watched the new Beatles doc it is quite clear that Yoko had nothing to do with breaking up the Beatles. In fact they all seem like perfectly nice and respectful people, having some laughs, clearly friends but artistically frustrated. That's ultimately what broke them up. They still managed to get one more classic album done (Abbey Road) before they called it quits but it was inevitable.

The Beatles needed to end. Nothing that great can last. It’s amazing they were even together those 10 years and managed to create so much in that time. But lennon and yoko are both right. They were drifting apart, and in all honesty they did all make great music after the Beatles. They ended before they did any wrong. And we should all be thankful for the music they gave us, not wondering what it would’ve been like if they stayed together.

These days, I can't stand the bands that survive into infinity. Solo artists, yes, I like them being productive and artistically active, but bands... no. They should stop when they still have something to offer and not get mummified, frozen in some awkward point in time and not move an inch artistically.

Extremely rare for a band to sustain greatness after 4-5 albums. The Stones (certainly not in Beatles stratosphere) have not made a good one since early mid 70s

Yoko made a good point it being amazing that a band of such talented artists stayed together for as long as they did. I've seen it among bands. In most cases a band will have one major songwriting talent who is the driving creative force behind the group. Where there's more than one it's not often that it actually lasts very long. There's ego's at play,, personalities, and diverging interests pulling in different directions that result in differences that most bands don't survive. The ones that do last are very much in the minority. Now consider the Beatles with at least three formidable songwriting talents in the group. George for example: His growth into a songwriter who could rival the Lennon/McCartney duo on his own and consequent growing dissatisfaction with the Beatles is well known. He once said the best career move he made was joining the Beatles, and the next best one was leaving the Beatles. All things must pass.

To be fair, rock music at that time was seen as populist and music for young people who had no creative insight. Artists weren’t as openly listening to pop music. We have decades of hindsight and other acts that have reshaped how rock music is now seen. Artists (especially avant-garde artists from the Fluxus Movement like Ono) were probably more into Ornette Coleman, Beefheart, Zappa, Stockhausen, and Velvet Underground. It’s not so hard to believe if you realize the context of the times. Also, things were more rigid in terms of identity compared to now.

Trust me, I know the wrong end of a toxic relationship where my partner couldn't deal with the boundaries I needed. In the end John seemed capable of dealing with it his way, but it was one of many factors that ultimately disbanded The Beatles as a unit (though they all managed to find good terms with each other throughout the 70s). I wasn't around in that day sadly, but I can imagine it must have hit like a truck to the fans - not even 8 full months had passed between their rooftop concert (their first public appearance since 1966) and John leaving the group (just 6 days before Abbey Road was released), and then Paul stating in May 1970 that there were no Beatles plans in the works.

None of them argued on a daily basis about Yokos presence...ever. Sad you can't accept it or prove it. They were squabbling before she even became John's love. At least they said they respected his choices unlike you.

He simped and she ran with it. Definitely had a part in them breaking up regardless of what he says.

Paul had also said this. John was a simp. He was attracted to "strong independent women". Paul said that when he first saw Yoko he though "Oh, alright, we lose John here!". LOL! Funny thing though is that Paul himself was also a simp. His divorce remains legendary too. Generally this generation of pop arists were for the most simps. It was not until the 1970s when a new generation of musicians appeared and these would be far less simps. It got even more pronounced in the 80s but by the 90s the companies were fed up and called in the simps back - Curt Cobain being a bright example, great simp too.
