The children's choir perform John Lennon's Imagine at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Ceremony featured performances from such acts as Take That, Spice Girls, Queen and Jessie J.
Every two years, the world's finest athletes gather at the Olympic Games - a spectacular celebration of sporting excellence that captures the attention of billions of people around the world. However, the Games are about much more than just sport. They bring the Olympic values to life and provide a global arena for a unique combination of sport, culture, education and ceremonies.
At the Olympic Games in London 2012, about 10,500 athletes from 204 countries compete in 26 different sports, comprising 302 medal events. Whether athletes win a medal or not, they can forever call themselves Olympians. The sporting competitions are undoubtedly the central focus of the Olympic Games and participating in the Games is the ultimate goal for most athletes.
Every edition has its own story to tell and will be remembered for some truly remarkable performances from sporting legends such as Jesse Owens, Abebe Bikila, Jean-Claude Killy, Nadia Comaneci, Katarina Witt, Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt, to name just a few.

Watched the performance on my tv and started crying, watched it every once in a while until now and still crying. Not only because John is not here anymore to encourage us to love one another, but because the dream of the world he describes is everytime harder and harder to get. If someone is reading this, I appreciate you for being a dreamer and believe on this incredible man.

Anna r, wow what a great comment. It's amazing how one man could change a world through music, not just this song but also All You Need Is Love. It's been tough in recent times about the world we live in and it's hard not to get emotional through this performance. It was great they did this at the Closing ceremony. His music will live on forever.

Some people only come once in a lifetime. John Lennon, Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury and so many others who contributed to music, film, art, literature and other areas, they'll never come again. Some of us are lucky enough to appreciate having lived in a time where these great people walked the Earth because they are irreplaceable. I mean, there might come a great songwriter in the future, but there can only be one John Lennon.

This is why us British are given responsibility of big events like this. The Olympics is an event which brings countries together and respects fair play. The Russians used the Olympic Games to make themselves seem so powerful and great, Britain used the games to promote peace and harmony. Truly wonderful.

Moments like these make one realise what a visionary John Lennon was. Had he lived longer, he would have played a crucial role in changing the thinking of countless people across the globe. Songs like imagine make us question the reason behind all the unnecessary hatred that still exists in today's world.

No matter how many years pass since John's death, the impact of losing such a brilliant mind and beautiful soul still stings as much now as it did then. I wish I could've had even five minutes to sit with John and talk. Hearing John's singing mixed in with modern covers always brings goosebumps to my skin because, although I know it's a simple dubbing of his recording over the singers, it's almost as if he's brought back to us for that tiny period of time. I don't like the Olymics, but I love John's work (just as I love Paul McCartney's, George Harrison's, and Ringo Starr's work). This really touched me, and I had to leave a short commemorative word for John.

All that the song is saying is the world would be an interesting place if everyone lived from themselves and you Believed in yourself; not some ideology, just you and everything you love. It also doesn't say that it can happen, that's why the songs actually asks you to imagine it. To think about it for a sec and then go back to whatever it was that your were doing, hopefully with a little more perspective.
@juniornuso5210
@juniornuso5210 8 жыл бұрын
+Clarence Dass Exactly. The music does not force you to be what you can not, does not manipulate you nowhere. Only forces you to imagine if all you're listening to really happen. It makes you think. The most beautiful song of all time.
