Although I agree there are abuses in the Charismatic movement, I do not agree that the miraculous gifts have ceased. That's going too far, since you can't find that in scripture.

+Ben Booth In fact, Scripture seems to make it clear that prophecy and tongues will continue until the return of Jesus: "As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, BUT WHEN THE PERFECT COMES, the partial will pass away." The perfect has not come yet!

God can do the same thing that he did today that he did in the first century. I would like for Dr. McArthur to show me an end canonical text. The only person that can limit God is God himself. While I agree with you in saying that there are indeed abuses in the Charismatic/Pentecostal movement, the thing to do is not to "Throw out the baby with the bathwater," so to speak.

Bumkin I agree with you 110%. One of my favorite Charismatic preachers of all time is Dr. Michael Brown. It is hilarious how MacArthur can't even defend his own beliefs. Truth is that just because he cannot experience it is the reason why he doesn't believe this making it void to him. He is always talking about how poorly the faith message is in the charismatic movement but, ironically he has his own negative spin on the movement. He is what I call an ill faith movement. God has a purpose for each and everyone of us. I do believe that God is Sovereign but, God wrote me into that sovereign will by Jesus Christ. "As is He so are we in this world". He has more than on one occasion compared his Christian brethren to Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses. Instead of building and working together as the Body of Christ, MacArthur tries to destroy it.

Praise God for the sadly very few pastors on earth like John Macarthur! Guys if you look in the Bible Jesus was rebuking the Pharisees left and right…..and unfortunately some of you are acting like them now when you dont want to accept the word of GOD!!! John only speaks with Biblical Authority. And if you call yourself a Christian and are not ok with John's sermons that are just what the BIble says than you really need to examine yourself! I pray that john's opposition will really open their hearts to the word:)

+Alolzhmael Tish I find it worrisome that many John MacArthur fans, you included, make statements like "John only speaks with Biblical Authority". James 3:1-2 makes it clear that this would not be true of any teacher except Jesus Himself: "Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. FOR WE ALL STUMBLE IN MANY WAYS. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body."

Yes, not all are teachers but I consider John to be a teacher because he studies the bible daily:)

That is insufficient Scriptural reason to hold him up as a teacher. After all, look at what Jesus had to say about the Pharisees: "You pore over the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life." (John 5:39-40) ...and... "do and observe whatever [the Pharisees] tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice" (Matthew 23:3) Now, I am not saying JM is a Pharisee. I am just saying the argument you have given for holding him up as an authority is very weak!

I may be weak in my arguments but we have tested him according to the scripture and have not heard any heretical teachings. I am just saying that today people don't want to hear the true gospel. People are literally making the bible fit their way of life. Making the bible fit their status/lifestyle will actually NOT save them. I am glad that John is staying as close to the biblical teachings as possible even though many of the truths are not being accepted these days.

"today people don't want to hear the true gospel" Not all people, and not even all people who don't give full credence to John MacArthur! “Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life.” But what is God’s reply to him? “I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace. (Romans 11:3-5)

My heart burns to say what I really believe of Brother John However because of my love for God and my love for the truth will keep it to myself I just can’t believe the things that such a great leader is saying May the Lord gives us enough faith for the next few year to all My bothers and sisters so We don’t to attack each other but on the contrary keep spreading the love of Jesus In this people will see in how much we love each other and how much we want people to be saved

As this man sits down and meets with others to criticize people about their practices referring to the Holy Spirit, the people he is criticizing are actually out doing the work of the Lord and reaching the masses for Jesus. Sure there are some that abuse the gifts, but there are millions who love Jesus, living godly lives, and reaching the world for Jesus.
