Being the son of Sicilian immigrants, I grew up Roman Catholic and was Catholic until my mid-thirties. By God's grace, I was invited to a Christian home Bible study group, and after a long and stubborn struggle and lots of reading of scripture, I finally saw the errors of that faith and I became a bible believing Christian. @@antonmeyer7369 I was listening to John MacArthur with great interest in his preaching. John's preaching lead me to question the Catholic faith that I was raised with. I also got a book written by a Catholic priest to compare to the bible as well, so I was being completely fair and thorough. John MacArthur's teaching was line by line through the Bible, and very deep. I loved it. Very deep. John started a study on the Gospel of John. I was excited because, "finally, someone will destroy the teachings of the Holy Eucharist." And then I would be out of the Catholic church. John gets to the 6th chapter, goes through line by line, of the feeding of the 5000. Then John states, 'This is where the Catholics get their idea of Holy Eucharist. Obviously it is a bunch of huey and full of bologna, because if you go to verse...' And John skips to something like verse 63. He changed his presentation style, he skipped over 25 verses and then went backwards. That was not how he approached any other verses. I was beside myself. He cant do that!! I wrote him a letter (1990s) and asked John to explain that part better. He asked me to buy a book called, 'The Gospel according to Rome." I was raising a family and had no extra money, but I bought the book. Guess what, it skips the same verses. Well then the Catholic priest had a chance to explain those verses. He was not afraid of those verses. All John MacArthur had to do was go through those verses line by line and I would have left the Catholic Church. But he never did and the book he referred me to did not either. God Bless And when we are ask to have complete faith in Jesus in all He said, that means having faith in the exact things He said in John 6. The Holy Eucharist is His Body and Blood, just as He said.

That's really interesting, since at 19:14 he speaks falsehood. Exodus 31:10 "and also the woven garments, both the sacred garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons when they serve as priests, and the anointing oil and fragrant incense for the Holy Place. They are to make them just as I commanded you.” The Hebrew word "vestment" (לְבוּשׁ) used for the priests of BL is the exact same word used for royal robes in Esther, regular clothes in Job, sackcloth for David in Psalm 35.

@@lewcehjitl3282 Well you're a little off of understanding. Yes God elects some out of every tribe tongue and nation for salvation. But God does not predestine the rest for hell. ALL men and woman who are born into this world are headed for hell already. If God does not choose to save some no one would be saved. The fact God saves any of us shows His great grace and mercy. That's why grace Is so amazing. And those He does not save , don't care. They are not crying , I wanted to be saved but God said no. That's not how It works. They hate God in their fallen unregenerate state which we are all in until God saves us. Ephesians 2:8-10, John 3: 3-12, Romans 8:7, John 6:44, Ephesians 1:4, Acts 13:48, 1Corinthians 2:14. Our will is in bondage to sin until we are born again. So as an unregenerate sinner you will NEVER choose Christ or the gospel unless God regenerates you first. Gives you a new heart. Ezekiel 36: 21-27. Remember the hymn? I was blind now I see. AMAZING GRACE!! If you are a believer and have repented and believed the gospel, then you are among the elect, the chosen!!

Let's stop cherry picking Sacred Scripture. 1 Tim 2 first calls Christians to mediate in prayer to God for other people. "First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone- for kings and all those in authority-so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity. This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all-the testimony that was given at just the right time. 7For this reason I was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the Gentiles." Christ is the only Mediator for the absolution of sin. He subsequently distributed His authority to His Apostolic Church in John 20:23.

On the day of His Resurrection, He commissioned His Church to either forgive sin or hold sin bound (John 20:19-23). St. Paul excommunicated by authoritative letter at least three men for their mortal sins (sexual and blasphemy).

Then please explain why ALL Bible believing people receive their rule of faith, the Bible, from her… History shows us that Jesus didn't leave us a bible, the apostles didn't tell us which books belong in the bible, the church fathers never agreed on the 27 books of the NT through the 4th century, not only did they not agree but their list of would-be NT canons were GROWING during this time. So, if it wasn't the Catholic/Orthodox church that compiled the 27 books of the NT in the 5th century with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and preserved it by laboriously hand copying them over and over throughout the centuries before the invention of the printing press, the “rule of faith” for many, please tell us, show us, who did? And if this church no longer exists today, what good is the text which came forth from her if she couldn't sustain herself?

@@derekcho2312 Great questions… The “church” never burned anyone, unfortunately some bad zealous Catholics certainly did. Equally unfortunate, pope Alexander VI. Maybe not the worst pope in history but certainly at the top. Reigning from noble Borgia family, he is as known for having many mistresses and several children. Besides breaking his vows of celibacy, Alexander VI’s name became synonymous with nepotism. To “explain” these behaviors is simply to say its - egregious, deplorable, criminal, just plan wrong. There is no excuses for these and the many other acts other Catholics in history have done. We are a sinful people - we are a church made up of sinners - we all are. My own child is among some of this kind of behavioral problems but they/we are still all God’s people that need His mercy and love. 🤷🏽‍♂️ I hope this helps-

Revelations 18-8! I was raised a catholic. The bible was in latin, our prayers were to mary, the mother of GOD. I went to confession on Saterday, I made up sins to confess. I prayed to mary the mother of GOD, I was 14 years old when I REALISED this is so wrong and I quit the Catholic church, I was given a bible when I was in my early 30's. I study the words daily and love and trust our lord GOD ALMIGHTY. The word of GOD is food for the soul!

Why would you make up sins?If you didnt have any to confess you should have said so but still was not really a reason to leave,it wasnt the fault of the church because you made up sins,Im in my 60s now have a catholic 6 years and have have much to confess,never been refused or felt unwanted the Priest is always gracious in confession.I think when I hear of people that leave the church its due to some personal problem they have rather the fault of the church.Bare in mind the church is two different things the individuals in it and the government of the church that has to do with beliefs,rules,doctrine which the latter is its core its unchanging from God so we shouldnt let the people, ourselves, or circumstances be an occassion to leave.

Thank you for your teaching. As a six year old little girl, I was told by the eighth grade girls teaching the ccd class, protestants did not go to Heaven. My mom's mom was protestant. Reading the Our Father off one of her planters that ended with for thyne is the power the Kingdom and the glory now and forever. I asked my mom why grandma's prayer was different than what we said in church. Grandma looked at my mom. Suddenly, without a word, I believe it to be the Holy Spirit, knew God loved my grandma. I knew her to love Jesus and believe I will see her in Heaven.

I was born Catholic because my mother was Polish and my father was Spanish. At the age of 12, 😂 realized, while in church, that the Catholic church could not tell me if I was saved. I did not come back to church until I was 23 and moved to Arkansas and was led to faith by a faithful couple- USING THE BIBLE. I am very glad that John did this series. I don't want anyone to be Catholic and I share that freely. I am going to try to write down ALL his sermons in this series so I can share it with my daughter and son in law. I was Catholic and went to a catholic high school. Our story was always when a Christian came to our doors. "we are Catholic and we don't believe in any other religion" God had something different in mind for me and my family. We end up in a different country with a hard situation where God opened our eyes to see the truth. I'm a faithful believer of our Lord Jesus Christ and am very happy God had mercy on us and showed us the truth. In my heart I did follow the catholic religion because of my family, but I never really believed. God saw that I needed it to find the truth and He guided me to the Light.

I too was raised Catholic and have been one for 70 years. When the pandemic came I sheltered in my home because of health issues. During this time I started listening to Cristian ministers such as Tiff Shullkesworth, pastor Jack Hibbs Pastor Brett Meador and Voddie Baucham. I never really knew the Bible before this and was absolutely amazed at the word of God. I never had a personal relationship with God before like I do now. Such a difference. I went to Catholic school for 4 years and even considered becoming a nun. During ny Catholic school years I went to mass and communion 6 days a week. As I got older I still believed but questioned the teachings of the church. I wondered how all those in hell for eating meat on Fridays felt when the declared it was now okay th eat meat on Fridays. Then came the sexual abuse of children b priests and the cover up by the church. Then came our present pope and I don’t agree with many things he has said. Thank you Lord Jesus for my salvationn. I believe in the Bible only and not in any religion. How can you go wrong if you follow the word of God. I have a brother who is devoted to the Catholic faith and loves the lord. I have sent him many videos but so far nothing has changed. He told me the other day he isn’t even sure that there will be a rapture of the church. He truly believes that the pope is infallible when it comes to the interpretation of scripture. Please pray for him and all his family. I don’t know if he will ever see the e truth and that is devastating to me. I love him so much.

Coming out of catholicism: at 11 while in church for penance I had gone every week. That Saturday I couldn't think of a sin. The priest said I couldn't receive absolution. I got up from kneeler and said ' I don't need you' only Jesus can forgive me' I don't need you " he chased me out of church.

Had a church leader visit me a couple of times, per the boarder we had. Would be sitting on the front deck outside. Was willing to talk to him. But, he got oddly belligerent when I wouldn't confess my sins to him so I could be forgiven. I said, I pray directly to Jesus for forgiveness. Through no one else, through no man. Seemed he did not like that. The conversation became very uncomfortable. He was..angry. Haughty. Didn't feel right. At all. He said other things that sounded totally unbiblical. But it was his..impatience and visible anger that made me uncomfortable. In my head I'm praying..Lord, if this man is not of you..please guide him away. And so He did. And he never returned.

​@@Dawg..... your story sounds fishy. Only a Catholic can receive absolution thru the sacrament of reconciliation. Only a Catholic priest can give absolution thru this sacrament. No Catholic would call a priest a "church leader". No priest offers the sacrament sitting on a front porch somewhere. A priest might if you were dying right there on the front porch and needed last rites but that's not what you said. No priest would become "belligerent" if a Catholic said he didn't want to receive forgiveness for his sins. That's up to the person entirely otherwise it would be to no avail if forced. No priest would offer the sacrament to a non-Catholic. It's against Church law. ​And here we go. Addressing those saying Baptism or anything else is required. I'm sorry you've been taught this, then used Acts to proof-text it. But many do this a lot with error. We see this with the prosperity gospel, etc. Plenty of examples in the NT where Baptism is specified as not being essential (beyond the thief of the cross). Those that push these beliefs - think of what your faith is ACTUALLY in...Baptism, not in Christ. With that said, I've been baptized as have the vast majority of Christians but we know this is just an outward extension of our faith not THE object of our faith. I get it, you're Church of Christ or Adventist. But like John is saying, the entirety of scripture is what most are looking at, not simply proof-texting which isn't proof at all. Read what Paul stated about baptism in Corinthians after stating he was glad he baptized so few of them. He went on to say he was not sent to baptize but to preach the gospel. Now, let that sink in. If Baptism was part of the plan of salvation or the gospel why not spend a LOT of time mentioning it as part of the new covenant messages we see in John, Hebrews, Romans, Ephesians, Galations Corinthians etc? Not only do we not see that, Paul said he was sent to preach the gospel. If required for salvation, there would be no need to separate it - after all it would be PART of the gospel. With that said, everyone should have that moment of baptism IF they understand it correctly to celebrate their entry into the kingdom and have a visual reminder of what Christ did and has done for you. Legalists, including C of C want to ADD to the gospel. This is unbiblical and takes away from Christ's glory. We don't get to boost about our PERFORMANCE over the free gift (that Christ paid so dearly for). How dare we. As Paul said, it is not of ourselves. It's a free gift. Yes, in Greek and English, this means the same thing. :)

If you were a Catholic for 30 years then you have most likely been confirmed. Non-Catholics typically refer to their commitment to Christ as ‘being saved’. John 17:21 isn't a command from Jesus to establish unity under a single church. Again, if you read the verse in context, you see that Jesus is praying for unity of faith for His disciples. Jesus isn't even talking to His disciples here...this verse is in the High Priestly Prayer, and God the Son is speaking to God the Father. Sorry, but there are also Catholic sects that are not Roman Catholic; secevacantist groups, Old Roman Catholic, SSPX, etc. Are these other Catholic sects also heretical? As a Catholic in Catholic school we were taught not to read the Bible because "it's too hard to understand." They said there's a specific order of priests who interpret the Bible for us. The order? I agree 100% with Pastor John McArthur. 'm a former Catholic. I was born in Catholicism and even went to Catholic schools. After the Lord opened my eyes when He saved me, there was no way I would ever step foot in a Catholic church again. I also researched the origins and beginnings of the Catholic church. In simple words, I believe that Catholicism is a mother-son cult and these cults go all the way to Babylon times with Nimrod and his mother. My maternal siblings and relatives are still Catholics and don't want me to talk to them about this. All they have to do is just to some simple time saving research and it would be right in front of their eyes. However, God has to open their eyes. My husband and I raised our boys in the Baptist faith and now they are adults who have blessed us with ten awesome grandchildren, none of who are Catholics. Even when I was young and dumb, I never would have bowed before the pope and never would even consider kissing his ring either.

It's amazing to me that a Calvinists can talk about faith alone saving you but then talk about distinguishing between "saving faith" and a faith that does not save. Don't you people see this contradiction? My Baptist cousin said, "How we live our life makes no difference. Our good works are like filthy rags." Yet Hebrews 10:24 says, "We must consider how to rouse one another to love and good works." Why are protestants so averse to the belief we are save by GRACE through faith working through love?
