i've ran over this issue so many times before i could do it justice. it's a question of practice... gotta now the lyrics (and it's melody) by heart as well as the guitar parts. Learn them one at a time (guitar and vocals), make sure you got the rythim right first, it's 90% of the problem... right hand... we all spend our times learning those sweep pickings but forget the guitar is primarely a rythimic instrument. Good luck (:

Fsuholley Really, he is among many. There are many unknown. He just had the record company’s millions of dollars marketing and promoting etc to get him out to the public eye. I went to Berklee College of Music same time as John, and in just that time alone there were countless epic musicians / songwriters. So many lost to the world that should be known. Glad John got break through
@firefly44444 жыл бұрын
@@JBAikensMusic i agree with u tht here r lots of musicians that get lost in the crowd and never get the breakthrough but i would like to point out being a blues guitarist myself tht the major difference between John mayer and his rest of the good musicians is tht the other good musicians either play technically advanced music or very crowd pleasing music......but mayer on the other hand combines breathtaking melody with some technically demanding guitar parts .....and the fact tht he dropped out of berklee because he knew he didn't want to be in a group of 1000s other musicians and carve out a different path for himself with no music background and make a name in music industry for different genres blues , country and pop music equally in my opinion tht takes different level of guts plus brilliance....

@Detlef De Clercq - Music Yeah, I totally agree. It's definitely a hard song to cover entirely; that is with playing and singing. The most amazing thing about it is that he composed it. It's one thing to be able to cover a great song, but to write one is what makes him great. It's funny how he composes such great songs than rearranges them for live performances and comes playing the song even better. His studio recordings are great but his live performances both solo acoustic or with the band are on a-whole-nother-level. I think I especially like his solo acoustic bits (not to disparage his electric performances because those seriously jam hard,) but I feel like when it's him and his acoustic he totally has the guitar and the song and just repurpose's it right in the moment. The chords or rhythm might be changed up and the solo will most definitely be unique so when he plays his songs alone like that you are surely to see a performance of that song that will never be played like that again; much like this Belief performance. Such a great arrangement of the song not far from the original but the solo section is totally unique and that truly is what makes him a masterful player! (Haha sorry for the ramblin' on & on I just truly think he is an incredible player and credit is due where credit is deserved. He has a profound influence on my playing.)
