Changing has the best Mayer guitar solos. Watched him live in London once. And don't you just love watching Aaron Sterling on drums.

Love how this man leaves space and restraint in his recorded music. Then you get this, a soaring jaw dropping masterclass in taste tone and timing..

When he goes off, man can he play.... Why aren't his records like this? Everything just clicks: the tone, the touch, the dynamics, the fantastic vibrato, his picking hand perfect in sync, ....
@johnzackarias112 жыл бұрын
I think that on the records, he plays exactly what the songs need. It makes seeing him live all that more special. Like, "what the fuck did he just do", his concerts are full of those moments!

@@johnzackarias11 If live is better, how can his records be exact?
@johnzackarias112 жыл бұрын
@@colaboytje I didn't say better. I said more special. I would hate for all of his songs to be eight minute guitar solo orgies because too much of a good thing makes it LESS special. Hearing an eight minute version of Rosie in Stockholm three years ago was one of the greatest things I've ever heard, but if I had already heard a version like that a hundred times, the experience wouldn't have been as magical. Sometimes you want a short, catchy pop song, sometimes you want that pop song extended into a virtuoso universe. One isn't necessarily better than the other.
@colaboytje2 жыл бұрын
@@johnzackarias11 You said Exactly.
@johnzackarias112 жыл бұрын
@@colaboytje Yes, as in exactly what the songs need. I feel like you're honing in on a single word I wrote without reading my explanation. So, again: There's a difference between how you want to present a song live and how you want to present it in the studio. On his studio recordings, he keeps the songs perfectly balanced, meaning he doesn't overdo anything, because the songs don't need it. John Frusciante is another great example of this. He can do some amazing things on a guitar, but he doesn't necessarily show it on RHCP records because the songs don't need it; every note is placed exactly where it should be within the context and sound of the song, just like you hear with Mayer.

John is slowly climbing to be be an incredible musician not just a guitar god. It s safe to say that all he went through just hunbled him and turned him into a better artist, add to that his experience with the Dead and his last realease -Sobrock- which is obvious that he's not just throwing out catchy songs to get the all clear for a tour, afterall he's one of the artists that did a world tour without any album released in 2019. I admire this man and what he managed to achieve in music, I only wish there were more people in other arts that did the same. Thank you John!

This is getting silly. Only two guitar players make me both laugh and cry at the same time (after 40 years of playing the guitar myself) Jeff Beck and John Mayer. The laugh is 'wow you are doing that and I have no clue what you are doing, even after all these year'. The cry is - well, that's why we play guitar

Unbelievable. Head in my hands. What this man can do with a guitar beggars belief. He has a larger than life personality which he expresses through his guitar playing. It's just an extension of that part of his creative brain which must be wired like a guitar. And then the emotion the listener feels ...It's crazy . I am continually in awe
