Writing music feels like you've tapped into something deep inside of you and all around you, very much like the Force. When John wrote "Still Feel Like Your Man", he clearly had a moment like that. It was a comparison to explain how the song came along. It didn't come across as "look at how strong I am with the Force". I'm good with women - pretty good actually - because of looks but I have pretty good muscles and looks for a guy! I'm very genuinely nice to woman (which I'm proud of) but this is kind of like a "level above" attracting women to what he says. Which is kind of why I like his interviews lol because he shows me what to 'work on' for what women can like - sensitivity, mysteriousness, etc. which is just idk entertaining. That being said, don't try disrespecting woman as a start because that's a TERRIBLE start. it's a weird dynamic. To be able to just explain why you do things or why you think things, or speak honestly about what you’ve done or are doing. And to a certain extent consciously presents that. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with loving yourself, in fact to the contrary I wish more people did, but I think that's what people are picking up on when they say he's arrogant, rather than his self awareness, or elegance of speech. There's a way of being self-aware, and self-loving, without coming across as arrogant, or self-important.

I’m 28 and John Mayer has consistently been the most influential, inspiring, and relatable dude in my lifetime. Wish more people listened to him. He’s never really preaching. Just being honest and insightful.

I admire him so much. He seems like a great guy to know on a personal level.

In-depth music listeners definitely appreciate you John. Especially the more subtle music he has helped create such as many tracks on Born and Raised, one of the least popular, yet, one of the most sophisticated and intricate albums he’s put out.

I love his break down of the purposeful psychological mind games involved with the creative song process and fighting against the grain to not write cheesy cliché lyrics, i’ve been there myself, it reminds me how hard it is to write a really really good song to connect with people

I love how he describes the geometric visuals he gets playing guitar. It makes so much sense. Piano players learn linearly. Guitar players learn geometrically. It's just the nature of the instrument. I hope that some day I get to the level where the shapes connect to emotion and I can play intuitively with feeling like the masters.

juanderful12 Yeah, I'm mad he didn't play "Your Body is a Wonderland," the girl I took who's dating me mostly because she says I look like a Latino Mayer would've gone nuts.

Came upon this interview while searching JM songs to play on my guitar. By far one of the best interviews i've seen with John Mayer. Great questions and no bullshit answers. You have a new subscriber.

I think John Mayer is highly underrated and misunderstood. He might have done some mistakes, but we all do.And those who overlook his music because they think he is a certain way should start appreciating him 'SEPARATELY' for his music.☺ I hope somebody gets what I did with the last line..:p

Love John mayers music. Can’t believe he lived so close to where I grew up in snellville, GA. And Duluth, GA in the 1990s! Small world!

Wow! I lived in Snellville Ga for like 9 years as a kid, and I've been a big John Mayer fan for like 14 years and never knew he lived there too! I've been to 6 Mayer concerts, and he lived right in my town and performed; thats pretty awesome/crazy to me, finding that out so lonng after being a fan. My head about exploded😱Lol😂

You can almost hear her getting wet over Johns story about the dog and how he's the statue. Dude is smooth. Gotta love JM!

the funny thing is if it was anyone but John she would think the guy was a total loser. also, was she serious when she asked "what do you think of my painting, as an artist?" you could see mayer was like :| "uhhhh"

I don't know if you'll read this John Mayer but I respect where you're at.. your pop music you came out didn't affect me as I'm more of a blues-rock guy but when I first saw you perform and blues numbers I was totally impressed and still am.. Most young men's egos will hurt them without the fame and fortune that you ran into so good job on getting on the other side of it..

Honestly it's refreshing to hear an artist be a fan of their own music in a way that isn't "Yeah I'm the greatest artist of all time" ala Kanye or something. John just likes how his stuff sounds, and that's cool.

Thank you for such a refreshing interview; Mayer is right, you're a great interviewer. I feel like I know more about what makes Mayer tick from this 20 min than all the other 3 min interviews I've seen cumulatively over time. Well done.
