I know a lot of people have been ripping on mayer for leaving his blues behind, but where Mayer is right now, in my personal opinion, is one of the clearest, most beautiful music I've ever heard. With Paper Doll, he's melted his pop, his blues, and his country all into one, and sprinkled it with whatever that magic mayer is. I'm more excited than ever to hear what he's got next, because if it's anything like this jubilant lullaby, I think we're all in for one beautiful album.

Changing notes in the bass can give the chord a new sound, even if it's using the same upper notes. Take a G chord and play a G bass note and it sounds like a G triad. But take a G chord and play it over a C in the bass and suddenly it's got this maj7sus2 sound. Beautiful chord.

Well the guitar plays a riff on the 1 (G), but the bass is playing a G, C, B pattern. So it's hard to say. Still tough to do regardless, but John has done it before and is the king at it in my opinion.

Is this mostly just over a 1 chord? obviously it isnt ALL on the 1 but a lot of it is? Impressive, it's hard to get mileage out of just a 1 chord. The solo is really lovely too :)
