How the hell around 0:45 is he plucking those high strings while kachugging on the other strings?!! Please tell me there is another guitarist outside the video frame. Incredible. Update: I've found a Tomo Fujita video where he teaches the kachugging, but no high chiming.

@@skierpage those were double stops in key of F# major. he does the triplets (kachugging) while muting the strings and adds the double stops randomly between the tempo

He's earned it many times over. JM and Derek Trucks have summited the heights of guitar god on the trail out of blues/pop. There are other routes though, like the hard rock wizardry of Steve Vai and Guthrie Govan, the compositional complexity of Tosin Abasi of Animals as Leaders and Yvette Young of Covet, ... It's a great time for guitar greatness! ♥️🤗🎸🔥

Jeremy Mazuca please fill me in on who he stole these licks from. Having influences and incorporating some of their playing and licks into your own is just fine. I don't think it would be possible for anyone not be a "lick stealer" in one way or another

Anything this handsome talented man does is the best version ever... I listen to him daily, love all his music including his blues and his Dead & Co. I do have my favorite concert versions I watch over and over and some are older ones, his Good Love Is On The Way and Vultures is Live in LA version. He does not have any bad versions!!

Single coils. Thank the Gods that John is here to punch the tones that modern music seems to push aside. Everything has to be fat humbucker dirty tone. Definition and the silence in between is every bit as key to quality tone/music, as the notes and hand manipulation performed by a master.

@@yourmomshouse6984 it’s in f Look up srvs cold shot and learn that and then come back to this. Also if your not playing a high headroom amp it’s not going to pick up the nuances in the attack like a D style amp will.

One can definitely see the growth and maturity of his playing skills since the 2010 version of this song was recorded. It helps to be playing with the best rhythm section in the world too.

imagine how crazy it must be to be john mayer. I mean you're born pretty well. I admire him because he pushed himself, and his parents didn't really help him out. I had the struggle, but the fact that he lived through all this. I bet he is very much satisfied with his life at this point.

I love this version of ‘Vultures’ but my favorite will always be his rendition from Live at Pinkpop 2010. That performance will go down as a top 5 John Mayer performance of all time for me. You SRV fans out there will agree.

Steve Jordan and him swapped instruments in a few of his older shows live. He’s a decent percussion player, definitely due to his great sense of rhythm on the guitar. What’s more impressive is his ability to keep in time with a Steve Jordan playing bar chords lol.

It's actually not a triplet. It's a grouping of one eighth note and two sixteenth notes.
