TT legend John McGuinness won his 21st TT race on Wednesday morning when he took the SES TT Zero race in record-breaking style.
Riding the Mugen Shinden, McGuinness was always in the lead and with a stunning new lap record of 117.366mph, he came home 23.3s clear of team-mate Bruce Anstey. Rob Barber, on the Ohio State University Buckeye machine, took third.

Such as shame that something this amazing isn't put on prime time sports coverage here in the UK. We are bored to death by average Soccer, utterly antiquated low skilled Rugby Union, narcolepsy inducing Cricket and this insane event is on our doorstep but sidelined for the procession that is F1.

These riders must know every inch of that circuit. Absolutely incredible skills. I've heard of the TT of course,but always thought it was a jolly,for bikers from everywhere to meet like minded people and have a whizz around at high speed. But this is astonishing. I came upon this video by accident,I'm so glad I did. I was terrified,scared shitless,and left unbelieving that people can ride,and maintain these ridiculous speeds on such a long circuit. I'm hooked. Subscribed.

taufiqutomo Not really. I mean, my comment is nothing but a joke, but it is true that at a certain speed, you do travel in time. If you travel faster than light, you are basically time traveling. If you were to travel at close to light speed and return to earth, earth will have progressed several years, whereas the time on your wrist watch has only changed by a few hours.

Some electric vehicles have noise generators for that same issue. (I've read, no first hand experience)
@Andrew-Kerr
@Andrew-Kerr 9 жыл бұрын
There is line of sight between all marshalling posts around the TT course so there literally isn't anywhere a spectator could cross the live racetrack without being spotted by the marshals. Also it's a serious criminal offence under the Isle of Man Road Racing Act to go onto the closed road without authorisation. Also many spectators bring AM radios with them to listen to the Radio TT live race commentary so they are well aware of when the first bikes are approaching their particular vantage point and the marshals have two way TETRA radios where race control announce when the bikes have left the grandstand to start the race or practice session. I should also point out, that because of the topography of some sections of the course, even the petrol powered bikes can't be heard approaching until the last minute. For this reason no marshals are permitted to cross the track once any race is underway unless it's essential and they are protected by waved yellow flags at the flag point prior to the place they need to cross. In between races (ie when there are two races on the same day) There are a small number of authorised crossing points where pedestrians and vehicles are permitted to cross from the inside to the outside of the course and vice versa. Before these crossing points are opened, race control make an official announcement and marshals move the barriers to allow people to cross the course, but not to travel along it. I'm the Deputy Sector Marshal at Cronk-Y-Voddy Crossroads and there is a slightly different procedure there. At Cronk-Y-Voddy the course intersects two quiet backroads and we don't open a crossing point there, even when the other official crossing points are open. Instead if someone indicates to me that they wish to cross the course during the times that the other points are open, I have to: Call Race Control on my TETRA radio and ask them for permission to allow those specific persons and/or vehicles to cross. When permission is granted I open the barriers and supervise them crossing. Once that group has crossed, I close the barriers again and inform Race Control that the course is clear. If someone else comes along a few minutes later I repeat the same procedure. So you can see that, whatever else you may think about racing electric bikes or riding them on ordinary open roads, as far as the TT is concerned, there is very little chance of a rider suddenly coming across a marshal or member of the public crossing the road and unaware there are bikes approaching. In fact it's pretty much the biggest part of the TT marshal's job to ensure that competitors NEVER come across an obstruction or unusual hazard without being warned about it well in advance.

Then it will sound like a pack of jet fighters passing you at incredible speeds! Keep it Clean and Green Midaz

Amazing riding. Mcguinness did comment how much he enjoyed riding the electric bikes. That bike looks so well sorted. Obviously not one of the fastest laps of The Mountain Course but one of the smoothest I have watched. Given a bit more top speed this bike will crack 120mph next year for sure. The great thing about electric bikes is their potential for track riding. A big problem associated with running track days is noise from the bikes. Electric bikes can help existing circuits deal with noise complaints and enable them to run sessions more often. Hopefully an upshot from this is it will enable more circuits to be built too.

I'm wondering since there is no down-shift if there is a engine brake? I'm use to race twins mostly with allot of engine brake.... And also how about the centre of gravity, with the weight of the batteries. Are they placed lower than the wheel axles? Where do you place your body weight? More to the front or to the back?... My gues it needs a whole different concept of the frame? No?

As technology grows, the real potential of electric power will be realized. Right now, it's just barely being tapped into. An electric bike has already won the Pikes Peak Hillclimb, and the electric cars are not far off. I've driven a Tesla Roadster S, and although I miss the roar of an internal combustion engine, it was the constant unrelenting acceleration of the electric motor that was most intoxicating. No shifting, no staying in the power band, it was all go from 0 to holy Christ, I'm doing 130mph. How did that happen? I drive a turbo charged open class autocross car that is brutally fast, but it's a handful to manage that kind of power in a 1900lb car. Coming out of a tight corner and having 100% of the torque at the peddle on demand gives an electric car a massive advantage. It's only a matter of time before the battery weight is no longer an equalizing factor and the electric car walk away with all the fastest laps of the day.
