Hi Gary, this is a great insight into the vibe in the studio. I love Mark's playing and first met him at a Courtney Pine gig in the late 80's. Thanks for taking the time to share this. Respect as always, B

I fondly remember meeting mark way back on a summer school at Goldsmiths where the teacher Ed Soph also met him and wrote about him in modern drummer shortly after, And it’s true at that time he didn’t own his own drum set! When I finally got to see him in action at the end of the course I was blown away with his playing… what did I learn looking back? That in a city like London you will meet many players that are better than you but at the time don’t realise they are not just really good..but on their way to becoming the very best of the best! Had I understood this in a mature way I myself might have carried on with a stronger sense of perseverance! And overcome that ‘also ran’ panic:)
