Not sure what you mean by 'induction centers' that is quite twisted and weird. Its pretty clear what many main stream artists politics are about, love them or hate them. People are allowed to have strong opinions. We hear them all the time from politicians. Folks in my geriatric demographic, they get all bent out of shape. I think they spend too much time on farting around on facebook . I do not understand. I actually watch younger musicians having a total meltdown, like the recent Grimes issues. Shit its the music industry.

Oh I have many older bands I love FreeWilly! And it’s true that older folk can get set in their ways a bit! But usually because they’ve learned a lesson or two in life that brings them to that point. I have no problem with any artist writing exactly what’s on their minds, or saying the same things in an interview! Freedom of speech should always reign! But when he says that it’s a performance, and then steps outside of the performance to rant political ideologies, it almost always segregates the audience. A segregated PAYING audience is never a good thing, with many feeling ostracized, and not ‘good enough’ to grace his presence even with money in hand! People are paying to hear his music, not his ‘UNSOLICITED’ rant! I say unsolicited because he’s playing in front of a paying audience, and they will decide when he starts to color outside the lines! But as always freewilly, ya made me think! Thanx!❤❤❤

@MichaelNoland-TheBottomLine Did you see Waters' last shows. He was quite clear at the start of what the show was going to be. Also he was clear he knew people like me were there who didn't agree with everything he says and was fine with it. He also has been political all through his Floyd and solo career. John Cougar, I just don't get what he's thinking. I have never heard an artist talking to their audience like that. I've heard some funny things from the stage towards people. But anything negative was after someone lit off fireworks or threw something at the stage.

I totally agree. I remember going to a Jefferson Starship concert back in 1984. They were promoting their political philosophy between songs. Their ramblings were tolerated for a few times. When they started telling us who to vote for, the crowd started to grumble. Instead of leaving it alone when it was clear we weren't there for a lecture, we were chastised for not being as enlightened as they were. That's when the boos started. Grace Slick and Mickey Thomas were shocked that we would boo their point of view. They were smart enough to shut down the politics after it started to get ugly but it killed the vibe for the rest of the show. You could tell that they were just blowing out the remaining songs and quickly ended the show. I don't care whose side you are on politically don't preach to me when I came to hear you perform. Yet these uber rich, narcissistic drug addicts want to sheep heard us to their world view. No thanks.

It's the worst part of a show when the artist decides to give a lecture on world peace. It's even worse than the ten minute drum solo, or the dreaded "and this is from our new album" moment. Just play your hits ffs. I'm reminded of the legendary Bono story, where he stops performing and slowly claps his hands, saying " every time I clap my hands a child in Africa dies of starvation" A voice from the back shouts out " well stop f*****g clapping then'"

That Bono story.......what a comeback, "well then fucking stop clapping then." 😁 Mere mortals, humans, getting up on their soapbox is always a recipe for disaster, and yet celebrities and artists just keep doing it! So Bono, Roger Waters, Mellencamp and many others, shut your pie holes and sing.

Saw him in 1994 on the Dance Naked Tour. Was not impressed - he barely played for an hour. A former co-worker is a volunteer usher at local venues and has ushered at a couple of his shows. Warnings precede his arrival - no house lights (not even ones to see seat numbers) once he's ready to come on stage , all beverage bottles from the concession stand have to have caps removed , and a set number of rows down front cannot have empty seats. For the latter , ushers or other staffers have to fill them until the ticket holder arrives. He also requires an enclosed tunnel between the venue and his RV so that he is not seen. And yes , he preaches at the shows and if he is irked by something , he throws a tantrum and may walk off and the show ends. The entire staff and volunteer ushers are on eggshells. Not good!

Loved Johns music from way back when the cool kids called him aSpringsteen wannabe. He always seemed cool in interviews. Then he just changed. Now he believes women shouldn’t have the right to carry and defend against rape. He now supports the Democrat party. He’s just plain lost his mind. Sadly as I still live his music and the cool younger John. The old John breaks my heart

I used to work for a concert promoter in Minneapolis. We always made money, when we had the opportunity to buy his shows. In addition, I worked as a union stagehand, also working on his shows-including a private corprate event (Best Buy). He always sold tickets and was easy to work with. The lat time we worked with him was about 2003 in an arena in St.Paul, MN- since he has played in theatres-very expensive tickets-300.00 +. I do not get why he has turned into a problem artist. This is hurting people that pay good money to see him. Well-word travels fast. You are about the third or fourth person that has repotred this info. Thank you- I love your channel. God bless.

I'm a fan of Mellencamps music, have most of his stuff, but it's gonna be hard to pull it now, after this shitty debacle. Heck, I love some of the films that were selected, but I didn’t come to see montage of classic films, I came to see John Cougar Mellencamp perform music. He gets very angry at people yelling out for songs from the audience when he can just take it in stride. You can just tell he’s leaving the stage in a really bad mood. I’m glad you brought this subject up Mike. As you’ve mentioned Roger Waters - I’ve been watching a current version of Sheep lately from Argentina. The musical factor of this - is just wonderful! Joey Warnoker (drums) and Gus Seyfert (bass) are truly incredible to watch and hear, Mike. You’d LUV them too I’m sure! But during the end of the tune (the incredible fanfare, swirling Gilmour guitar part) Roger seems to want to remind us to “resist” many things via his Jumbotron screen. One of them is: resist CAPITALISM. Really, Rog? So…I ask you this: is this then a FREE concert by any stretch of the imagination? Likely, NOT. He’s just another big-mouthed hypocrite. These would-be Rock Stars are no different than politicians today. They come onstage, read from a teleprompter, say what they THINK is important, then turn their back to run offstage without any hearing criticisms from the other side. It’s all a one-way affair for them and fk that, I say!

I go to a concert to listen to an artist and his work. Growing up in the 60s and 70s you were used to an artist stating some opinion about their viewpoints and what was going on in the world. As I’ve grown into a more mature and much wiser man, I can look back and see that a good bit that I heard even in those days Were the views of someone who didn’t know much about both sides of an issue. And in today’s environment, I sure as hell don’t want to be lectured to buy a millionaire artist.

I would argue that it is disappointing to go to a show, where tickets are expensive and you can’t hear the musician because the drunken or stoned audience feels they need to sing into your ear, or stand up in front of you, to film the entire event. Quite frankly, I’d appreciate seeing more of a theatre like audience and event so I could better enjoy the experience. As far as Mr. Mellencamp having an opinion, that is what has make him such an intelligent writer. No one is perfect, but his music (including later stuff) is a mainstay in my house.
