This is the best live version I've ever seen of this song this is definitely my all-time favorite John mellencamp song thank you for posting it kicked ass 👍

I agree, one of the best versions of this song that I ever have heard. Totally kicks ass! The dynamics are simply perfect and the way it builds is truly something else.

If you think this is good, try this version some time from piazman1976. It has Johns best drummer, Kenny Aranoff and I think Johns performance was more over the top. Either are very good. This is one of my favs from John and I've been following him from the beginning, I like Bruce...but I LOVE John!!

This is a DEEP song. Probably not appreciated by this audience. But very intelligent and telling. One of my favorites

Such a great song. Mellencamp delivered a performance that made this song sound better live than recorded.

Mellencamp is the best and he was perfect for this kind of concert! I can remember it so clearly watching this when it aired on VH1. Back then my cable tv was routed thru my Pioneer stereo system and it was blasting that day!

@pboscophoto, actually, I would consider Mellencamp up there as a great American songwriter and performer. He may not be a Young or a Dylan, but he resonates well with the common people, including me. His politics -- always left-wing -- have been easy to digest. He captures people not on our conflict but on our common ground.

Neil Young is as Canadian as hockey and maple syrup, but a great songwriter regardless
