Yes, that's me (the ball boy) in front of the Bonus Print advertising board. I remember this like it was yesterday ! Johnny, Johnny, Johnny !! - Forest Legend.

Was worth staying up late for. Never seen anything like it since. This and Liverpool’s 5-0 win against Forest, great 80’s midweek footie.

I was there to see him score this thunderbolt, even though I'm a Rams fan...free tickets, you see. The sheer brilliance of the shot even made me leave my seat ! I have never seen another goal like it and have been watching 30 games a season for the last 25 years ! Just wish Mr Metgod could get some of the current Derby players to do the same !

I remember watching him play as a late replacement for the Forest 5-a-side masters team, he was far and away the best player there. Everyone else had lost pace, and caught up with him. Neil Webb and Nigel Clough were probably cracking at that level, too.

I was at Forest and saw the Metgod goal from a position in the far stand shown in theTV picture. I got the impression that Parkes took his hand out of the way by self-preservation instinct. If his hand had been fully behind it, it stood a good chance of being crushed against the crossbar. I have never seen so much power in a shot - as someone said, this was with a heavier ball than they use now, and it was still rising as it hit the net.

I seem to remember this game was in March or April 1986 and was on a Wednesday evening...because I think the extended highlights were on Sportsnight. I think Forest won 2-1. I remember Tony Cottee scored for West Ham.

If there wasn't a net in that goal I think that shot would be passing Jupiter by now, you can see this shot increasing in power once it left Metgods foot.

@razer4660 no, we won't give away that whole lower tier because: a) that's the part of the ground that is easily filled b) most teams in the championship couldn't half fill that lower. i don't see us selling out, but i see us getting a very respectable attendance, average of around 30,000, it will most likely be higher than forest's. we'll sell out against millwall, leeds, forest, cardiff, palace, leicester and all the other biggish clubs.

I don't know who the Forest player was who stood in the West Ham wall, then left a gap in it as Metgod was about to shoot. (Forest fans will no doubt tell me!) It's the oldest trick in the book and West Ham were naive to allow it. But I can't quite see from the video if the ball went through that gap, and I suppose anyone who had got in the way of the ball would still have a headache today. By the way, Metgod junior - did your Dad ever show you how to shoot like that?

@razer4660 i do pal, i was there. they didn't bring 3,000 because liverpool took that many and went along almost double what west ham did. i'll say it again, not every club's fans sell out every away allocation, they just don't. end of. this is a stupid argument and you're being very petty about it.
@UnionOfJack13 жыл бұрын
@razer4660 what are you on about? you can't say 'SHOULD OF HAD A LOT MORE' when you have no clue what went on can you? even if it was £4.40, that was alot of money then ffs, like for example man united only bought around 1,500 to upton park this year. i'm sorry BUT I VERY MUCH DOUBT FOREST SELL OUT EVERY SINGLE AWAY ALLOCATION THANK YOU VERY MUCH. oh, and forest is 2 and a half hours away mate.
