I agree with him. I’m a teacher who teaches kids aged 8-11. One of my fave thing to do is talking to them as if they are not kids. When you talk and treat them as your equal (instead of talking down to them and/or being condescending to them just because they are much younger than you are), it’s amazing what the things that they would tell you about. Seriously, this would make it easier for you talk to them and understand them. Because they feel respected and in turn, they would also respect you and actually talk to you. (Also, the reason why I talk to kids the same way I talk to adults is because I’m very awkward around kids. I don’t know what to do and I can’t act sweet like other people. So I opted to do what I did and was actually surprised by the result.)

Dee, I'm laughing at someone who is very awkward around kids choosing to go into teaching, but bless you - maybe you've figured out the secret (or *a* secret, anyway.) But seriously, your point about them feeling respected... Kids are perceptive, and they can tell when they are being treated as "less than" or unworthy of respect, so when you actually treat them *with* respect, it really lets them step up to that.
@nakaharaindria3 жыл бұрын

I have children who are my world. I still have a career that I love and it fits my skills, personality and I’m passionate about it but even that was born out of wanting to be able to remain home with them. Without them I wouldn’t feel complete. That being said, I respect other people who choose not to have children. For whatever reason (financial, maintaining freedom, health, etc) Being a parent is a lifelong commitment to someone you have never met. That takes faith, and a bit of stupidity to sign up for 🤣 I think it’s great that he & his wife know what works for them and are making the conscious choice to be a family of three (you cannot forget Petunia!) So many people have children because “it’s time” or they’re told they “should”. Not everyone should be a parent. Some people are too selfish. On the other hand I’ve met many childless by choice who would make amazing parents, but it doesn’t mean they want to or should. Being good at something does not equal happiness/passion/calling. If they ever do decide to have children, I picture John Mulaney as a child but, they’d dress him in suits everywhere they went and demand people call him Mr. Mulaney, no first name BS. He’d be their business associate or roommate, not their child 🤣
