In my opinion, I think John is the better guitarist because his style of playing is very improvised. He likes to add little touches while playing. On the other hand, Kee is more of a proficient guitarist. He plays the songs exactly how they play them which was good for the time we did Out Of This World and Prisoners In Paradise. It suited him well there however, I just favor John's playing but both are very solid guitarists!

Kee is probably technically a better player. But they’re both great. I don’t prefer either, they both played great, melodic solos. The musicianship in Europe was always really good.

Both have totally different styles. Norum is bluesy and classic Heavy Metal oriented while Kee is from Van Halen school, so he masters many great techniques. They are just different, no one is above the other.

Those would be players like Warrren DeMartini or George Lynch or Paul Gilbert if we're talking about someone with a similar technical level. Kee's style is very continental European. There's a Glam twist to it, but to me it sounds more "East Coast" than Van Halen.

Both are superb guitarist for sure! John is the original and so there's alot of love and the fact that he's long back in the fold will make the purists happy! That said, Key came in, did a fab job and kept Europe running for a good while, well I'll always be grateful for that and his work on out of this world stands up for itself! What you hear does not fit what you see... Kee's fingers keep performing what is obviously an arpeggio but the sound is one sustaining note. Very bizarre.

I love John. But in my opinion, Kee uses more different techniques. Like Tapping, legato licks, sweeping, etc. which we dont see at John´s playing. John also plays scales up and down and phrases of it, while kee is more melodic, and also uses different modes.

Agree that both guitarists are superb. Their styles are different - John has a bluesy style and plays with more feel and emotion. Kee has a more technical style and plays with speed and structure. Personally I think John's style suits Europe's music better. I also favour John's solo work over Kee's projects.

That is correct . When Kee joined the band he was like the Max Martin of his era . Wrote produced for many many artists. Kee himself says he and Norum are friends and none of them understands that fans are fighting over who is the best. Even think (Not sure ) Norum said that he was happy that Kee replaced him as Kee is a Marvelous singer, producer, writer and musician . Worked with Kee for over 30 years and he is even a better Keyboard player than guitarist so he is a musician more that a guitar player only

Norum's playing takes the best parts of Gary Moore and Michael Schenker with his own unique spin on it - a style that was one of the keys to The Final Countdown's success, and thus why we all know the band Europe today. Marcello admitted that he wasn't even a fan of Europe's music before he joined. He was just a hired gun, not a true fit for Europe's sound, but he did well nonetheless. He messed up the chemistry (which is what Ian Haugland once said) and the band lacked fire and passion without John. Kee's solos are nothing compared to John Norum's. Norum's playing fits Europe's sound. If Kee played at a higher level they would've kept him, and he wouldn't spend all his time bad mouthing Europe and doing terrible covers of their hit songs.

​@@MrMvidz It's not subjective. It's a fact. Europe broke America and then the entire world thanks to the partnership of Tempest & Norum on The Final Countdown album. Norum didn't just grow up with the band, he actually founded it with Joey, and they built their sound up together over many years before TFC became a hit. Their chemistry is basically Europe's entire sound, and Joey has said this on many occasions - he calls it 'the fire'. Joey flew to LA and begged John to rejoin Europe after he left them. What does that tell you? Kee was never a true member of the band. He, like many rock musicians, has an ego which tells him that Europe was successful because of him. The fact is they were far weaker with him in the band, so much so that they only lasted two albums with Kee before Europe split up.

They put the band on ice as they realized that grunge was going to make them obsolete, which happened to so many bands. It was a good decision back then. I followed them here in Sweden from being just another talented local band, winning a band contest and so on. Clearly, Joey and John was a special combination, but while Joey was more extrovert, John was quite the opposite. Kee was from my hometown, some 400 miles north of Stockholm, so he didn't grow up with these lads - BUT - his relationship with Joey started earlier as they did a project together and when John quit, Joey didn't have to audition a ton of guys, he knew Kee would fit the bill.

Music is all about your preferences. Yes there are good and bad musicians, however comparing two professionals like Kee and John is really not about who is the best guitar player. In this video I prefer Johns solo over Kees even if "the flight of the bumblebee" is a true testament to Kees skill and speed. I've always prefered Kees playing, the solo he wrote for the song superstitious. It's magical!

For me Europe were never better than throughout the ‘Out of This World’ & ‘Prisoners in Paradise’ era with Kee. His touch, tone, taste, and technique helped define the best music Europe ever produced. I like John Norum too but it’s Europe with Kee Marcello that is almost always my ‘go to listen’!

Yo diría que Marcello puede tocar más estilo fusion como Allan Holdsworth quizás, como en el solo de " Just the beginning" o "Towers Calling" Norum es más Gary Moore o John Sykes, de hecho hay un disco del 94 de Norum que se lo dedica a Gary Moore. Steve Morse is probably more technical than Ritchie Blackmore, but I much prefer Blackmore. Mike Mangini is probably more technical than Mike Portnoy, but I much prefer Mike Portnoy. Sammy Hagar is a better singer, technically, than David Lee Roth, but I much prefer Roth [1978-1990ish that is]. Bruce Dickinson is a better singer, technically, than Paul Di'Anno, but I much prefer Di'Anno. Kee Marcello is probably more technical than John Norum, but I much prefer Norum. Notice a pattern? By the way, John's solo piece is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Kee Marcello's annoying flight of the bumblebee noise in this video.

Norum👎 plays well, but uses a lot of amateur, fast, short slides. Vibrato also plays very fast like a beginner. His vibrato doesn't sound that accurate. First of all, Kee🥇 plays excellent technically and I have nothing more to add.

I’m a Kee guy. I think everything from technique, tone, how he builds and writes a solo, is way more soothing to the ear. Not to mention his melodies just finds a home in the song and you really look forward to them every time. That’s special. Norum is a great player, but he ain’t Marcello level 😎

As a reasonably proficient guitar player, I clearly vote for Kee Marcello. He is hands down a better guitarist, faster and more technical. John doesn't improvise. There is no improvisation at this level. He is just lazy and, when it comes to Kee's solos, he just can't play them! Kee could play every solo of John back in 1987. Kee, however, was part of the "cheesy" era that did not age well. Although he produced some blistering solos (Just the beginning, Ready or not, Yesterday's news, etc), the overall product was better with John in the band. John is a great bluesy, rock n rollie, guitar player with huge emotion in his sound. But, in comparison, he is sloppy at Kee's speeds and he is hopeless in the tapping and tremolo techniques.

John Norum is the guy who made me want to pick up a guitar. His phrasing and technique is phenomenal. Kee is a complete different type of musician. A great player and his speed and technical ability is amazing,. However, I go for Norum hands down. He has moved with the times. Kee is a shredder which seems to have stayed within his style up until this day, which isn't a good thing. Still love them both to death though.

If these videos are the decision base, Norum is totally superior Marcello. The heavily compressed guitar sound marcello is using is flat dead and the alternate picking of scales sounds so unmusical, More like a circus show. Norum is using a much warmer sound, not that flat and compressed. Although harder to play with that type of sound it is much more musical. Marcello acrobatics are quite boring. Norum sounds nice. But my comments are just based on these videos.

John Norum has better melodic phrasing and shows more emotion. Kee is fast at chromatic runs and diminished runs but his melody lines were rather monotonous and boring IMO. Im a big fan of melody lines and hooks in songs. Theres too much emphasis put on how fast someone plays and not enough on whether they can create beautiful melodies. Anybody can make noise on a guitar but the best musicians can make the guitar talk and sing.

Per me non c'è mai stato paragone....uno è un chitarrista ultra tecnico e basta l'altro è tecnica gusto e originalità....cosa molto più rara....❤
