It's just weird as hell and seems like a power move to try fucking over Daryl by forcing him to deal with who or whatever ends up buying John's half. I've defended John a lot over the years but this is a shit move on his part.

Hall and Oates are no longer together, but their music will go on forever. I have been listening to them since 1976, their music was so good that WDAO which was a Soul Music station in Dayton Ohio back in the 70s would play their music. We called their music blue eyed soul music back then, with songs like "Sarah Smile", and "She's Gone".

@@gangoffour6690 I think their catalog would be worth hundreds of millions. Hall and Oates had several number 1 hits. Whomever holds the catalog rights stands to make a lot of money. John Oates has not been good with his money wasting so much money on fast cars etc. Now he is at the point where he needs to sell his half of the catalog to maintain his current lifestyle, but I agree with Daryl Hall not to sell it, unless they both agree on it.

Live at Darryl’s house was one of the best tv shows I’ve ever seen. It gives you a good sense of who Darryl is, his love for music etc and it’s easy to see he’s a pretty down to earth cat. Their music catalog is worth tens of millions to each guy depending on writing credits etc and I see why John wanted to sell being in his 70’s. Too bad they couldn’t have hammered out an acceptable agreement without all the lawyers. There has to be a better way.

This is pretty sad. They're both old and probably don't have a lot of time left. John needs the money. Daryl should just let him get out. So strange to listen to john say those things about Daryl. I don't believe John doesn't feel like they were close like brothers in the 80s. I think he's just very angry and bitter about the lawsuit. It's going to take an emotional toll on both of them.

Then he should sell HIS solo catalog - how on earth can you sell off half of a duo w/o it screwing over the other party. IF John sells off his half, he's also selling off Darryl's half, i.e.: his image, his voice & his writing. That's just ridiculous. He should have asked Darryl to buy him out and then he's sole owner of his image too - John willing sells his to him.

The issue with John selling his half meant that Primary Wave, who he was selling it to,could then use their music,videos,etc.. for anything. Darryl Hall’s voice and image could be used for things he doesn’t agree with, and he wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. John Oates mentioned legal wrangling before he decided to sell, but there was no lawsuit until he attempted to sell his half. He called Darryl and told him he was going to do it,Darryl explained why he couldn’t allow it,and they argued. Both told that story before the lawsuit.

I had a great friend, we knew each other over 20 years but we drifeted apart.last couple of years of our friendship. Wanted different things out of life. Should we stay friends just because we have that past? Hell no! We are both much happier now actually, living our own lives.

It is unfortunate that these former partners are in conflict. Oates was not clear at all about the reason for selling - what situation, what legal wranglings that got complex? Even the show Behind the Music from 25 years ago, I believe John explained they were never that closed to begin with. Daryl wouldn't admit that. He mentioned they got along real great and enjoying being together. I think the problem with those two, they couldn't come in terms of agreement. I believed Daryl accepted John more than John accepted him. The main issue is, Daryl has a huge ego problem and he probably didn't know it was affecting his relationship with John. John on the hand, was trying to get out of Daryl's shadow for a long time but couldn't. I think John don't get along with Daryl on the persona level and Daryl don't get along with John on the business side of things. That's what I'm reading about their relationship.

I love these guys! I've seen them in concert three times!❤❤❤ They played "Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time" by the Delfonics. They tore it up! Please resolve this matter, guys. I love you guys!!!❤❤❤

The main thing that I got out of this was that John Oates has a new album out.

Doesn't matter. He's living in the Hall and Oates shadow forever. The wacky music business don't care for the old. They want fresh blood to screw over!

@@ronluckenbach9492 Oates has always been about the slow, folk music - even though he has blak in him. While Hall was about Motown soul - even though he too made that folk music to start, then a little new wave. So hall kind of funked the duo - or two artists up a bit.

I've lived long enough to say- never say never. One day, as they both grow old and sentimental, they might well look back on their partnership with love and fondness, maybe even do a tear-filled reunion show. Both men are brilliant artists and we likely might never have heard of either of them had they not started together.

❤ So Glad to hear that his Dad made it to 100. And, he wants to enjoy his life with his family. And create more of his music. ❤
