I used to be John's newsagent, he'd come in the shop most mornings and he's one of the most genuine guys you could meet. Absolutely zero 'celebrity' ego, unlike some of the footballers who I catered for. Have a great retirement JP

John parrot was a great player on his day.His performance in the 91 World Final was brilliant which some seem to forget but not me a Jimmy fan who thought he was going to finally get his hand on the trophy only for Parrot to play snooker i never knew he could play and also played Ronnie O'Sullivan 12 times winning 8-4 which is a great stat and showed how good John was.Enjoy your retirement John and God bless you and those you love and care about.
@Echochamber792 жыл бұрын
I am totally with you, I was 12 when they played the 91 final, I come from Tooting (where Jimmy is from) and went to the same school and the same snooker hall as Jimmy. I thought Jimmy had it in the bag until I realized Parrott was playing the best snooker of his life! I think Parrott said himself "I can't play any better than that".
@mark-1472 жыл бұрын
In ranking events, Parrott and O'Sullivan played 4 times, John winning the first two (before Ronnie had turned 19) and Ronnie winning the last two. In the Masters, 1-1
@MrGloryglorymanutd182 жыл бұрын
@@mark-147 just look at snooker stats between the two.Im a Ronnie O'Sullivan fan and he's cemented his legacy as snookers greatest ever so i don't have a reason to lie.It says parrot was 8 4 up vs Ronnie when they played there last match.But obviously Ronnie is much better today although his best days and performces were between 04 and 12 in his prime and from 13 to 22 post his prime and still won 10 majors.

I was fortunate enough to meet John when he came into my betting shop a few years ago. A complete gentleman and couldn’t have been kinder to the people who met him and wanted to talk and have photos with him. What you see on television is what you get. No pretences or superiority, just a class man who made many peoples day that day.

So long John Parrott, you were a colourful personality, a tad underrated but a fantastic top end player and a gracious champion! My dad loved watching you play, the first time I watched you play was 1991 on a long weekend, the tv was out of bounds coz it was the world snooker championship final and you were playing. I was 9 years old going on 10, I’m 40 years old now and I’ve followed your career with a great fondness. I wished you would go one more time, gonna miss you John, thanks so much for the memories and have a lovely retirement man you’ve earned it.
