No matter how many warm moments he shares with his wife and family, he’s still missing a huge part of himself. That is what I get from this. I feel that Joy is his counterpart. She sings to his soul and he to hers. In a perfect world they’d be together. Some people are unfortunately in a position where they have to choose between passion and family. It makes me sad but we get beautiful expressions of love through the music inspired by this yearning/longing dynamic. True connection is SO powerful.

I read the lyrics before actually hearing this song and I knew immediately what it was about… the upbeat music video snippets of him and his wife and the Roy Orbison vibes are very misleading to say the least (probably intentionally). I've been privileged to chat with him several times and the love he has for his family and his wife (who is in the video) is evident in everything he does. I loved the Civil Wars, but he is over it. This is my favorite song that he has ever written, and it's absolutely about Jenny.

For some reason, as talented as he is, he and Joy were lightning in a bottle as a combination.
