For anybody curious about the inspiration behind the licks, this is my best guess. 0:00 - 0:15 As I Am intro 0:15 - 0:40 Glass Prison intro solo 0:40 - 0:50 Constant Motion (main riff) 0:50 - 1:15 On the Backs of Angels solo 1:15 - 1:25 As I Am solo 1:25 - 1:50 I have no idea, sounds like a solo from Black Clouds 1:50 - 2:35 backing track from In the Name of God but solo sounds like A Change of Seasons 2:35 - 2:50 Constant Motion riff 2:50 - 3:10 This Dying Soul ending

1:25 - 1:50 is definitely from black clouds and man... isnt this the best riff ever ? i mean it is almost as powerful as kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3LRep2DaLKKi6c (which is my favorite) not in the same way ofc don't you think ?

zacharylawrence pattern at 2:31 is from the first solo in endless sacrifice, and the pattern at 1:22 is from damage control

***** It's a combination of the picking hand dampening the strings, the available fingers on the fretting hand also play their part too (especially in sweeping from the high E to the low E). After watching such clean shit like this I decided to completely overhaul my playing after over a decade of bad habits. Play it slow AND clean then go from there.

@@martijnvanspaendonck7989 The thing is he may be way better technically but dont forget what john has already written down. He composed all these beautiful solos riffs and songs. In this case john petrucci is better but just my opinion. Didnt really heard any andy james stuff, i know hes hell of a player but so is john. Johns stuff brought tears of sadness and joy to my eyes. When he plays parts like that he is normally following the chords, doing different kind of arpeggio extensions (minor, major, minor 7th, major 7th, 9ths etc) aswell as blending in some passing notes that does not belong to the arpeggio. He often play the same thing through octaves aswell.

I recently purchased this DVD. Andy James slows down and breaks down each section of the solo featured in this video. My only complaint is the lack of tab. However, I just make my own using power tab editor. From my experience, lick library doesn't include tabs which is disappointing. But, it's a great resource to learn some amazing licks.
