MP's drums are great on this. As Petrucci said in an interview I think last week that he gets the best of both worlds playing with two amazing drummers. Mangini with Dream Theater and MP with his solo album and maybe LTE in the near future. Petrucci didn't say LTE that is my own comment.

I love mangini...but listen you can hear portnoy and petrucci have an undeniable and intiamite understanding for each other on a musical level. If u have been a long time dream theater fan than u will understand what im talking about. They have almost a telepathic understanding for where each other are going musically and emotionally. This album is incredible and i will listen to this more than any of the new dt albums. Petrucci and Portnoy are the core of the band.

They always reminded me of Rush . In a good way . A very good way. The bass, the drums, the guitar, the phrasing, the timing signatures & changes, the cyclical interludes, it's all there , lol the whole deal . A modern, heavier version of Rush but you can here them in there plain as day, like you hear Eddie Van Halen in everybody that plays from my generation lol . I bet every one of them would list Rush as one of their favorite bands and biggest influences lol I'd eat my hat I'd they didn't . I've played since 1972, guitar that is, and while I still stayed in a band through out my whole life and tried to keep up on new music to keep the play list fresh I did, also, raise a beautiful daughter by my self & worked a full time job in a foundry and thru that 20 years the amount of time I had to dedicate to new music, apparently, was very little because I don't see how these guys snuck under my radar till just a few years back . I KNOW !! 😲 Hell for all I know , Dream Theater was already disbanded by the time I started listening to them...and I still don't really know anything about them except their music . I wish we had the internet when i was young lol I listen to them all the time now . All my playlists are peppered with them . This solo stuff is really good also, my youngest grand daughter (7) loves Happy Song lol she is my little dream theater buddy , she likes them to . Though I'm not sure who, besides Petrucci, is playing on this but I agree with the ... "Sounds more like Dream Theater than Dream Theater" comment lol it's very reminiscent of Dream Theater . And oh yeah the daughter.... raised, left the nest and has one of her own with two darling daughters in it and I now have more time for music and realizing i missed out on a lot, in my day it was pretty much Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai & Joe Satriani . now there's this whole new crop that I haven't heard of till a couple years ago. Guthrie Govan and Andy Timmons , Joey Bassonawhatever lol John Patrucci, there's a lot of talent out there I hadn't heard of till a few years ago. Guess it's time for me to play catch-up. This is great lol I was just complaining the other day how I hate everything we play any more lol and want some new , fresh challenges. Thanks for letting me drone on off the point lol If anyone has more info on DT or any other suggestions of music up this alley I'd love to hear them . ✌

@@Mr.CliffysWorld I have the letters "YYZ" on the bumper of my truck right now, so this is said with MUCH respect to Rush: to compare them to Dream Theater is sad. Rush flys to the edge of the atmosphere. DT is the cosmos. The next level. Rush inspired them, but DT made it happen. Musical evolution.
@Mr.CliffysWorld
@Mr.CliffysWorld 3 жыл бұрын
Seeing how Rush is pretty much my favorite band I'm not sure I agree with you 100% but I can see your point they are part of the natural progression for that genre of music. Back in the day wouldn't that have been one hell of a show to watch Dream Theater open up for Rush? What could have been LOL I'm not sure how old you are but there used to be this van Fastway not a bad band but they're just more Straight Ahead Party Rock there is not much depth to their music or lyrics and I saw them in Cincinnati Ohio open the show for Rush and the crowd wanted nothing to do with them this would have been back in the late 80s it was their Grace Under Pressure tour and Fastways singer was wearing a leather bomber jacket, as they were in style back then, and were around $300 or $400 and in a desperate bid to try to get the crowd into it he's swinging it around his head and threw it out into the crowd and the crowd ended up throwing it back LOL I felt bad for the guys they weren't really that bad of a band they just didn't play the right kind of music to be opening up for Rush. Victims of poor billing. They would have been better suited opening up for an AC DC type of band or maybe Van Halen. But I very much so see DT as the natural progression od daysn rom22 me one less till my last" .

John "I can crank out an old-school DT album whenever I'd like" Petrucci, folks. I mean it kind of sucks that it's hard for him to separate himself from DT, and MP likewise.... but that's because they're as good as it gets when they play together and are/were the majority of Dream Theater's sound. This song (especially 3:00-5:00) and album remind me of how I grew to love all of the aforementioned in the first place. Also LaRue is epic on this album and really killed it on this song. It'd be awesome for these three to collaborate more.

"Jaws of Life" and "Damage Control" had a child, and they named it "Temple of Circadia". A suggestion? A big part of us, fans, want to know more about creative process and record sessions behind this album. Amazing work! It took a while, but it was worth the waiting! #Ripyourheartoutandfeedthedragons
